eye pain! please help...

Hi! I've been having this dull eye pain in my right eye for about 1,5 weeks now. The pain is located on the upper left side of the eye, just beneath the eyebrow. I've been to a eye doctor and he checked the pressure and everything but he couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes. My eye is not red, and I haven't got any vision-troubles. Still, it pains, especially at night when my eyes are closed. I find it hard to sleep because of the pain. What could it be and what should I do??? Please help, it's really annoying...

You mean if I have rhinitis? I don't... And I do not feel as if I had a cold or so. My doctor gave me these eye drops last tuesday, they are just kind of artifical tears (only NaCl and water). Today I spoke with my doctor again, because, apparently, they are not helping, and the only thing he told me was to take them 8 times a day instead of 4 and to wait one more week.

You need to have more than an eye doc look at you. You could have anything from migraines, to cluster headaches to a tumor or just stress headaches...or who knows what. Please get to your regular doctor and have him refer you to a specialist he thinks is best.

this sounds like it could possibly be Reiter Syndrome/Reactive Arthralgia which is known to attack the eyes (iritis, uveitis, high intra-ocular fluid pressure/inflammation, etc)....you will want to be tested for the HLA-B27 gene marker which gives you a much higher probability of getting conditions like Reiter's/ReA -- though there are poenty of people, like me, who have quite severe Reiter's and yet are HLA-B27 negative.

(There are several new gene markers for inflammatory disease being discovered and will soon be available for testing, but for now B27 is all there is to look for)

I would most definitely get checked out by a Rheumatologist or someone else who has seen a few different types of Reiter's/Reactive Arthritis/Reactive Arthralgia and might be able to accurately diagnose you.

In the mean time, think back.....was there any sort of infection, food poisoning, etc. that preceded these symptoms? Even if it was months or years before the eye pain began? Research Reiter's and see if you can recognize any of the many different possible symptoms......

Well, I'm going to a doctor tomorrow because the eye still hurts and the eyedrops don't help. I'll ask for a MRI, wish me luck...Knowing the medical system here it will be hard to get a referral, but I'll try.
