C Spine Fusion - looking for success stories

Hi All,

I go in tomorrow AM for my pre-op evaluation, then schedule a C-spine fusion surgery, don't know how many discs yet. I have degenerative disk disease and have been attempting to manage my pain to now. I resolve it is time for surgery as the pain can be excruciating. I have done the normal rachet up on pain killers which now only seem to put my pain at best on the 2nd row of the shelf, as opposed to front & center. I still experience lots of horrendous breakthrough pain.

I am looking for folks with C-spine fusion experience that can offer me some hope I will indeed be relieved of some pain, the procedure is worth it & what I should expect in terms of recovery.

I also have depression and anxiety. I have been told these conditions might improve as well once my pain is under control. This will be my first surgery.

Hi, Cary,
I haven't had C-spine fusion, but L4-S1 fusion. I just wrote some detailed information on the "sciatica" thread. I don't know if this helps at all, but that's what I have to offer.

I'm sure you know surgery is a last resort, but sometimes necessary. I hope some others who have had cervical fusions post and then you can get the info. that's more specific to your location. Lakeside and I have had fairly recent lumbar fusions.
