I just came on here quickly to share this. I went and saw the Rheumatologist today. She looked at my history and my family history and after she examined me, she says she is concerned enough and sure enough to dx me with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and that the fibromyalgia is a secondary disease and is annoyed that my PCP didn't take the time to actually look into anything else before giving me the FMS dx. So now I have a script for 5mg prednisone (sp?) to take 2x's a day. Has anyone taken this stuff? I was told to be very careful as it can cause further issues with my back. How often does that happen?

Yes, do be very careful with prednisone. You are on a small dose but you still need to be careful. Don't miss doses and if you feel any strange symptoms call your doc immediately. They do help a lot but sometimes the side effects aren't fun. Also, don't just quit on your own. You MUST be tapered if you're on it for more than about a week.

Are you serious?? Tapering? What is going ON with all the meds you need to TAPER!?!?!?!

Oh well, screw it. I just don't want to hurt anymore. I am worried about getting fat tho eyes

Don't you think any additional weight might increase the pain in your back? Maybe better to try and stay more or less the same weight.

I know that, but they say that is a side affect of the prednisone. I will try to avoid it if I can, but who knows? I had lost almost 20 lbs in 2 weeks from being in so much pain I was sick sick sick. BTW this morning was my 3rd dose, and I was so excited, I could get out of bed without wanting to cry! So far, it hasn't had a bad reaction with me, and it is working AWESOMELY! It doesn't kill the back pain, but I will take the relief from my hands, wrists and legs and feet. SO excited....

I wonder how long it takes for the side effects to get bad....

I am just enjoying it right now while i am good... Not depressed, not tired, 50% of pain gone... freakin' sweet yeah

Thats awesome. I think way to many doctors diagose firbro cause they cant figure out what is really wrong. I'd be willing to bet you may be able to lose that one.

SJH, i'm glad you are doing well on the pred and hopefully it will contine to work for you.  For me personally prednisone is the devil.  I have an auto-immune disease very similiar to RA and they gave me prednisone and for the first 3 days I was fine.  I didn't notice any help with the pain, but I didn't notice any side effects, until the third day.  I began to notice that I was anxious.  I couldn't figure out why.  As the days went by, it got worse to the point of almost climbing the walls and no sleep.  My husband asked me how long since I had started the pred, and then I put the pieces together. In addition I have severe osteoporosis and pred can cause bone loss if used for a long time.  Remember though, everyone is different and some people have good results with pred.  I hope that you are one!

It looks like I will be on it for at least 2 months. The only thing I had today was kind of a sharp pain in my stomach, which I think may be from the bleeding problem I had from taking to much ibuprofen. I don't think this will hurt it, since she knows about it and says i will be fine as far as that goes, but it did make me worry a little bit. Yeah it makes me go into overdrive. I actually got stupid and played around with a friend of mine today and twisted wrong which floored me for about an hour, but i am OK now....

WAY to much energy, don't know what to do with it...

I'm fine off of the opiates, this makes me feel better than those did for the "limb" pain, although I wish I had a pill or two for my back. I think I would be perfect if that was the case. I am waiting for my PM Dr. to call me and my PCP to call me with their apologies. I will be waiting far after hell freezes over...
