A rabies precautionary question

I don't know anything about your condition, but suggest that you call
Poison Control in your area. I think you call 411 and ask for "Poison Control"

Rabies can't be passed from a scratch; can be passed from a bite and saliva.
Kittens are like cute little maniacs and constantly run, play, scratch things - they
are like little kids w/10x the energy. That's normal The breathing issue could be
an upper respitory issue which is easily fixable and very normal in kittens. Kittens

should have all their vaccinations by this time. As someone else said, there are plenty

of low-cost vaccination places.

I'm very sad to hear that this kitten is left outside at night. She is probably very frightened

out there being a small kitten, only 3 months old.

I volunteer with our local Animal Services and do adopt-a-pets and would never adopt out a

kitten to someone who would leave it outside at night. Sorry if I sound harsh about this. A 3

month old kitten is just a kitten, unkowing of how to take care of itself outside (unless it's a

feral that was born and lived outside from birth). Get the vaccinations for this kitten - whatever

it takes. Take care of this little being that relies solely upon your aunt for its health and well-being.

I have a litter of 7 (yes, seven!)  3-month-old kittens right now and that behavior ("very hyper,jumping and clawing on the pillows and blankets,running all the time,and making weird noises while breathing") sounds absolutely, perfectly normal.   When my group of little sweethearts get going, they put the Tazmanian Devil to shame!  Pillows, blankets, dirty laundry, and my dogs' tails all just BEG to be attacked  and I don't dare leave anything small enough to be carried off or I'll never find it again!   They also growl and/or "warble" when they're playing and will pant when they've been playing too hard.

I have had literally hundreds of rescue cats/kittens come through my home and like Julie, I would never adopt into a home that would allow the cats outside without a leash and walking jacket, much less leave them outside all night.  Humans have created a world that is far too dangerous for them.

I'm sorry about Zoe, truly I am. I have had animals and lost them, mostly to old age, but each time I grieve as they are like children to me.

I do have to say, though, I hope you may consider adopting another animal, as there are so many strays that need homes (you just brought several kittens to the human society so you know this). However, before you do that, please learn about animals and in particular, the type of aniimal you want to have before you take it in. A dalmation is a very active dog. Plus, any animal will be nervous and protective (and that behavior may show itself in many ways, including Zoe's behavior) when another animal is brought into its territory. Add to that Zoe was probably even more protective because she had kittens. I'm sad she had to be put down, but I'm not here to make you feel any worse. Just to emphasize that animals are alive and have predictable behaviors if you learn a bit. I would also not have allowed the dalmation (or any dog that the cat wasn't familiar with) into the home.

And I'm sure others will chime in, but please, please have your animals neutered or spayed to prevent more animals who need homes. There are often low cost clinics in many areas to help with this. Our local humane society just built a new building and they have their own spay/neuter clinic, which is great.

i'd also add while this topic overall may not be direclty related to CP, a pet can certainly ease one's distress, especially a cat when they purr. Since you're empty nesters a pet may make a great addition to your home - just learn some things from those who know and work with animals, and you may well find a loving pet to add to your family.

JDTRIP and all those who would choose to put down a cat because it bit or scratched you.
Please don't have any more cats. They may be suddenly afraid by a noise or something
and react with a bite or scratch. Always have your 4-legged beings spayed or neutered
if they have not already been. And d2parrotperson, yes, if there is saliva, as I mentioned
in my posting, can pass along rabies if there are rabies present. I hope you took care
of your cat that had head trauma.

Please only have animal beings if you understand how to take care of them and can give
them the love, care and shelter they need.

I got all scratched up and bit by one of my serene cats yesterday because she was angry
and very afraid of receiving the Sub-Q fluids she needs every day. She had had enough
and that was her way of telling me. I held her and told her how much I love her, how much
she means to me and that I want her to live, and that I know the Sub-Q's are uncomfortable
and I understand.

I have another 1 year old cat that, when I brought in my current foster kitten with agenesis,
my cat became very angry and actually hissed and growled (his first time) at the new
kitten, and was showing signs of depression at the extra attention I was giving this foster kitten. I took
my cat in my arms, he tried to get out with a struggle and then just laid limp and cried as
I told him how much I love him, that he is a precious soul in my life and he will always be my
baby boy. I held him while he cried for a long time. He stopped growling and hissing at the foster
kitten after that.

I know anything related to animals that I write might sound harsh, I just see so many animals being
turned in to the Animal Services for reasons that should have been considered BEFORE adopting,
people actually trapping cats as a hobby and bringing them in, people consciously moving into a
new place that doesn't accept animals, so they bring them in. These precious beings are just that,
precious, and deserve the best love, care, shelter, food, water, everything!

Here kitty, I did take care of that kitten. She was found on the side of the road with an injured head. I took her to the vet and got her treatment. I brought her home and after a day she started hissing, growling & frothign at the mouth. I took her abck to the vet and she had to be put down for neuroloical damage from being hit in the head by a car. I paid out $75.00 for a kitten I never had the chance to know. I am an animallover also, adn share my home with several.
