I do not do well during the holiday season.
Neither physically or emotionally.
Used to LOVE it.
Not no more.
I feel so "different"
I'm currently stressing over Thanksgiving which is followed by "You know"
Oh dam, the money that needs to be spent.
You can't just not buy stuff ~ family might not like you.
Sometimes I feel like they don't like me anyway.
I'm so full of aches and pains.
However, I don't grumble to them. NEVER!

WOW Pamela can I relate...maybe thats why I moved 2,500 miles away from my family...haha..can't afford to buy presents, or for that matter even a turkey. living so far away they can't see how embarrased I am. I find it easier to apoligize on the phone.

You are not alone...hang in there, we will all still be here for you through every day..not JUST the holidays!

I can sooo relate about the holidays.  That's exactly how I feel.  I used to love this time of year; but I now dread this next month...  sad

It's sad, isn't it? We all loved the holidays but now because of pain and health AND for some of us money issues it's something to dread. Honestly, I can't wait until they're over. Especially New Year's Eve when everyone is celebrating the upcoming year. I used to have hopes the New Year would bring positive changes, better health, etc. and after many years of things only getting worse I find hope actually hurts. Does this make sense to anyone?

So I am relieved on January 2nd when all the commotion is over.

The one holiday that I use to love I dread seeing it come. its all the money spent that you don't have, at least its that way for me. I use to go overboard and know it when I working. But, when I worked I got a rather large Christmas bonus every year, so money was never an issue. Wish I could say that now. My family understands all too well those days are over. Its me that has the hard time accepting I cannot shell out the dough on gifts like before. I mean I get so down its not even funny. I do spend more on the grandbaby than the adults and the little ones. I use to completely decorate my house downstairs. Took everything down off the walls, even did the bathroom, kitchen & dining room. Not to mention outside. My husband always said he felt like he was at the mall when he came home from work.,lol Now I do good to get a tree up. Anyone else have this problm? Hugs Susie

I still love Christmas, but I'm also dreading it in a way. I am unemployed (my company went bankrupt) and my UE insurance just ran out. I'm hardly getting any interviews, either, though I know I have experience and was told my resume is very good. It's unbelievable how many people are applying for the same position. So my savings will run out soon & I don't know what to do. I also went to several staffing agencies, but they don't have anything for me yet. So I am going to feel soooo guilty this Xmas when I can't buy like I usually do. I always went overboard, too. My family always told me that and they don't expect it....but I love to give and I will feel bad anyway when I can't give much this year. It's just the way I am.

Wow, this thread reailly is hitting home with several of us. Yes, Susie, I understand! And Baybreeze, my extended unemployment just ran out, too! I'm in the same place you are financially. The job I was hoping to at least get an interview for just sent me a notice that they've decided not to fill that position right now. Congress is supposed to extend unemployment again, but that may not happen until after the new President takes office and by the time that goes through the paperwork phase and we actually get checks, it could be months. They may do it at the lame duck session this week (I know we're not supposed to get political, but I called my Senators of both parties in Washington to leave messages they should do that now!). Anyway....I just hope i can keep connected to all of you.

Aww, sorry Palady, it's really a bummer to run out of UE and have nothing left. The problem with the extension is that republicans (and Bush) are adamantly against it, so I don't think there will be another extiension. I know some unemployed people, who, at their interviews, were actually told they were lucky to be picked because they don't look through all the resumes...they just grab some out of the pile and call them. The rest go by the wayside. That doesn't sound very promising. One good thing, I had applied for 1 job a couple months ago, where they use an agency to weed out people to send to them for interviews. Well, the agency got over 450 resumes for the job and thank god mine was 1 that was picked, so I already went through several rounds of testing, which i passed, and I do have an interview coming up. I really hope I get that job! I'm doing as much research as possible and hoping to find some info that maybe other applicants won't find, so as to stand out. It sucks, because I can't even go work at any stores in the interim for money, as I cannot stand; and I had a few lower paying office jobs, but they all say I'm "overqualifiied". I just hope my disabilitites dont' prevent me from getting a good job, even though I know it can't be used against me. I even got a state grant to go back to school for more training, which I did for 6 1/2 months, but even that is not getting me anywhere. I am trying so hard not to let it get me down, that's for sure.

It's going to be a tough road for a lot of people, and in a strange way that's a bit comforting to me - to know that I'm not alone. Not that I wish ill on anyone! But at least saying you're unemployed, cutting WAY back for the holidays, is probably going to fairly common right now. I don't buy many Christmas gifts anymore, but always enjoyed buying for the kids in the family. I'm going to spend a lot of time at the Dollar Store, but still when you go to any famiyl gathering and your gifts are opened along with others, the kidsd themselves know the difference. Sometimes I find the rare times I do go to a family gathering I go late, after all the other gifts have been opened.

But I do believe we'll get an unemployment extension, it's just a question of when. If it's tied to a larger stimulus package in this upcoming week, then it will likely get shot down - which will show just how much EITHER party truly cares about us "little people". (sorry for the bitterness at the moment, but I'd like a bail out!!!) But once the new President and new Congress are sworn in, I've heard them all state extending unemployment is their first prioity. So it's just a matter of time, and then how far back they go in terms of date of retroactivity.

There are so few jobs I can even think about applying for because of health limitations, i really seriously wonder if I can do them because my difficulties are with sitting, standing, etc. - and lack of clarity due to meds. Gee, ,that starts to cover a lot! I hope you get the job you're interviewing for, but don't feel alone if you don't. There's a lot of us - even people who don't have health problems!

Yes, I'm a bit limited in what I can do for jobs as well. If I was normal, I would at least go get a few jobs in stores or something to tide me over, but I can't do that...I can't stand or walk around for long. Sitting can be quite painful for me as well, however, that's really the only thing I can do. Then not to mention that I have a visible limp, so it's obvious I have something wrong, which doesn't help when I do go on interviews. I agree that it will be a tough year for many people this year, which is quite unfortunate. At least I have my family to help me out for a bit and there are many people who don't even have that.
