I took this thread more as a warning and feel that people should be made aware of this. It would be a shame if this thread was locked. I['ve been spreading the word about this for over a year now to my friends and have been shocked by how many (with teenagers!) weren't aware of this.

I've been having my son read the warnings, side effects, and interactions sections of the drug pamphlets to me for a few years now. I told him that I wanted him to be aware of the side effects and dangers in case I was having a problem and didn't realize it but it was actually so he would never be tempted to sample anything.

Kttn: I think that starting this post was a good thing. Most parents are unaware that this problem exists let alone could be right under their own noses. It's 2:30am here in KS so if I sound like I am rambling please do forgive me. Once again my pain in my left leg is keeping me up and I am growing quite tired of it and I think hubby is about to blow up at me as well because of it cause he is grumpy as it seems I woke him up too. God I hate this!! Anyway, when my son was a child I tried very hard to teach him the dangers of taking these medications but did not think of having him read the side effects and interactions like dagger did which probably would have helped a bunch and for this I regret. He gave into peer pressure and went down the wrong path. The feeling that I got when I found out he was stealing my medications I never ever want to feel again. It was as though someone stabbed me with a knife and was twisting it into my gut. It felt like someone had cut out my heart and I cried for two days over this. You can't imagine the horror and grief that goes with being betrayed by your own child.

Anyway I do so hope that each of you withchildren are coping better with this then I was able to and that you all had a better night then I did

Well I'm glad to hear Brevard Co. is tuff on these pain docs. I live in Palm Bch. Co. were Rush Limbow? was charge for drug shopping, he was using a dr. I used to go to for a while. I think they dropped the charges, can't remember but I've been to several pain centers here over the last 15 years and never been tested for drug or alcahol use at any of them. Some places, you only see the doc once, then a doctor's assistant w/ a one or two year county college degree just writes you a script every time you come in. They ask how are you, anything changed and write it in their notebook and hand you your scripts. I know this sounds hard to believe but it is true! When I had my prostate cancer surgery over 5 years ago, I asked my doctor's assistant if he could give me my script early as I would be at Johns Hopkins in Baltamore when mine came due, his answer was, just load up on what ever they give you there, they know what they are doing and I'm sure you can use the extra pills and wrote me a dated script anyway! I don't see that doc anymore. I work in construction here in Broward co. were the news paper I wrote about is published and know way too many guys who use these quacks, some shop them. Jobsites are like drug markets here. Most construction workers have had some sort of injury, most have a ruptured or bulging disc and thats their ticket. Some don't even use the pills, just sell them. It's crazy and really pisses me off! Once in a while they will charge one of these pain places but only after there is an OD directly related or traced back to them and they will make a big deal about it on the news. But it doen't change anything. Shocking but true.

I also live in south Florida and I've seen the ads in the free magazines. The number of those place
is truly remarkable. I have 3 levels of disc herniation, 2 of spinal stenosis, facet hypertrophy and ddd. Also have psoriatric arthritis and anemia of chronic disease. I hurt-a lot more lately too as I haven't asked for or received a dose change in about 5 years. Currently I wear a 100 ugh Fentanyl patch and take 30 Mg Roxy for bt which is about 4 times a day. The patch really does not help too much a
nd while I'm sure I would do better on Oxycontin, my PMD will not rx it. I have heard so many good things about it and the Roxy helps a lot, but outside of changing Doctors, there is nothing that I can do.
