Chest pain???

Hey everyone, I'm new here but I have a major problem, the center of my chest hurts, feels like it bruised. It usually doesn't hurt till I sit up from a laying down position or if I flex my chest muscle. The dr. Said it was a muscle thing and to rest it. I've rested and took the meds he gave me but I still feel it. It's been a month now since I went and it still hurts. Please help. Thanks

Welcome to the chronic pain forum. I'm a bit out of it tonight but wanted to respond because chest pain is certainly something not to be ignored. It sounds like your doctor has ruled out any possible cardiovascular issues? If you're not absolutely sure of that, then at least call the ER to report your symptoms and see what they say.

There have been some recent threads on something called costochondritis (sp?) - I'm not sure if I've got the name right as I don't suffer from it, but others here do. It does seem to be related to chest muscle pain. You might try searching the threads - I think there's something in the most recent few pages. Hopefully someone who knows more than I do will also respond. Just be sure the serious problems have been ruled out.

It sounds like costrochondritis. It is pain in the muscle, or cartilage in the chest. Kind of like arthritis in your ribs. I have that too a couple times a year when I am flaring. It could also be pleurisy but since you didnt mention any shortness of breath Im going to guess its the first one. But the pleurisy will get worse with a deep breath or changing positions. I would just follow up with your primary since you have had it for a month.

Hi Helpme, welcome to the board. It does sound you have costochronditis that is what I have . My chest pain is severe and it even hurts to breathe and move. My dr put me on Ibuprofen for it . That doesnt even touch my pain . I feel for you and understand what you are going through. I was told it was inflammation of the chest wall and ribs that it would be a chronic condition. heating pad and warm showeres help some. I just wanted you to know your not alone.
