IV Sedation For MRI

Sedation for an MRI??? I've only heard of them doing this if the person is afraid of closed in spaces. I've never been offered any sedation or anything like that for MRI's , I think they like to torture me or watch me writhe in pain.

I had to laugh at that last answer, I never heard of sedation for an mri, not for nothing, why would you need sedation? There is no pain involved. I had a couple of blocks that I SHOULD have been given sedation. It was so painful, I couldn't believe he did that to me, I was screaming. As far as MRI's, I was never offered anything but maybe headphones. I never heard of being offered a pill either. Well, I guess it's a policy but I can't understand it. Pamela, I wouldn't be complaining either. Good luck, dear.

I had someone, I believe, take me the wrong way and it's a shame, cuz, she never talks to me after that andI didn't think anything of it, but when I saw she would avoid any post I made, I figured she took me wrong and I wish she hadn't. I guess, I had the forgiveness post on my mind. :)

we really do have to watch what we say. I am personally ignored. : ( . I do not

Scarred, I always say I'm claustrophobic and they give me a tranquilizer. I already
have Xanax so it's no big whoop.

White Beard, I really can't premedicate because I take Methadone. With Methadone,
you might just pass into that long dark night due to its long half life. But you know what?
The amount of pain I have right now, I couldn't even do it. Holy cow, I just
don't know what is going on with my shoulder and spine. (I wouldn't ordinarily say
"Holy Cow" but you know how the program goes)

My husband just called the hospital. My IV sedation goes right on the bill to Blue
Cross. It's paid for, boys and grills!

Could the IV sedation be related to the methadone? Maybe your needs are different because of that. Others may know more about that. It's just a thought.,

Hey IV sedation is the only way to go girl.lol. See how many are jealous you get to do your MRI the easy way.lol. I too am claustrophobic, been there & done that many, many, many times, lost count. Susie Q

Chart - just a thought about why you may have been kept awake. Some injections (edpidurals, facet joint, etc.) are done for pain management. Some for diagnostic purposes. Some for both. It's actually not unusual for you to be kept awake so the doctor can identify he/she's placing the needle correctly. And if it's being done for diagnostic purposes, you have to be able to tell the doctor if they're at the right location. But usually you're given a local anesthetic at the site (at least I was) so none of my injections were painful - just somewhat uncomfortable. So there may be a reason you're kept awake.

Pam - hope all goes well. I still think the IV sedation is unusual for an MRI. And unless you're in an open unit I would wonder how they would keep the tubing, etc. from getting in the way. But I'm sure there's a way and a reason!! Either way, you shouldn't feel a thing!!

My pain doctor is an anesthesiologist. I think most CA doctors are anesthesiologists. That may be the reason
I'm having IV sedation.

It's difficult for me to lay on my back for a long time but my pain doctor doesn't know this. He doesn't know
much of anything, really.

PaLady, I don't see how they are going to keep the IV going while I'm in the tube. Someone mentioned
that I might get the sedation BEFORE I go into the MRI.

Maybe this is all a great hoax. Maybe they want to give me an incentive to go there and get the dam
MRI. When I get there they'll say, "So solly, Mrs. Neckpin, we thought you was someone else and there
ain't no orders for you to get IV sensation." hmmmmm .......

My doctor freaked when I showed him that the pain was in the rotator cuff area. Now I think he thinks
that I have something more serious than I do have. He thinks I have pain in my neck and back. Susie/
Straydog says that shoulder pain can be caused by neckpain. So I'm not tooo worried. I hope he doesn't go
through with all the ordering of tests he's planning on. He may think he missed something. Eh?

Oh, what can a creative tiny mind come up with next?
