Well, I am sitting here smelling the coffee and unable to have any of it!!  I have to have an endoscopy in an hour and a half and I can't wait until it's over so I can go to Cracker Barrel and finally have that cup of coffee... turn

 

Oh what a morning! cry   Haven't slept much, have really bad dry mouth, and can't take any of my pain meds....Yippee!!

 

Oh well, only a few hours until I can feel normal....whatever normal is..

ME,

Any other time smelling the coffee would not bother you.....when we can't have something we want it more...hope everything goes okay, ENJOY your coffee when you finally get to Cracker Barrel!

You know I get the colonoscpy done every year but two years ago I had both the the endoscopy and the colonoscopy done,  anyway I winked at the nurse and just before she started to inject the concious sedation cocktail and I said "Doc just make sure you do the endoscopy first before the colonoscopy" The nurse just started cracking up laughing, the Doc stopped her from starting the injection and proceded to explain how they use two different scopes!  Duh! as if I didn't know that! When he realized I was just joking he acted a little miifed. But eveyone else in the room got a good laugh and ewven more at the Docs reaction!  By the way that was the first endoscopy/ colonscopy I ever had that I did not remember any of the actual procedure afterwards.

I've had countless scopes, they're not bad at all, they're actually really easy. They just give you meds to make you sleepy, they dont fully put you asleep, have woken up a few ties during the scopes, but I barely remember what happened. You'll probably have a sore throat the rest of the day but that goes away pretty quickly. Te worst part of the procedure is gargling that nasty stuff that numbs up your throat. I'm suppose to have them done reguluarly every 2 years, but havent had one done in over 6 years, I cant find a doctor nearby that takes my insurance. The last GI doctor was over 2 hours away and he did a colonoscopy with no sedation and I screamed the whole time, I'll never forget it, it took me 2 months to recover from it.
Everyone told me I wouldnt remember it, but I remember every turn and twist in my intestine, I really think they wouldnt sedate me cause I was already taking pain killers at home (at the time I was on fentanyl patches), but I dont think thats normal practice, it was just this doctor's practice, and I will Never Ever go back to him, kinda like I'll never go back to my sleep specialist cause he did very inappropraite things to me. I have very bad luck with doctors in the past 5 years except for the past 8 months.

These are easy but the funny thing is every time I have an endoscopy I end up waking half way and trying to pull the tube out of my throat. They REALLY don't like that and I end up with lots more sleepy meds and wake up a few hours later.

My husband had one not to long and and he said it was the first time in years he was not in pain (He was injured in the military but the VA won't give him pain meds cause it would increase his rating and they don't want to do that)

Seriously, they administer sleeping meds for endo? Never heard of that before. A full colo, sure, if necessary, but for endo?

Well, I have had plenty of both done in the past 6 yrs and always had sedation and woke up later like I had a nice nap. To my knowledge I have not ever woke up during the procedure either. I have a pump and yes they can still give good ole versed and fentanyl. I had my last endo in Dec. and no I never did drink anything to numb my throat for an endo. My dr sedates all patients unless they ask not to be and I cannot imagine being awake for one.

I absolutely despise the nasty prep for the scope. If you go to the cd forum everyone one of us gripe about how nasty that stuff is and thats the very worst part of the procedure itself. My gi says he cannot imagine doing a scope on a chronnie that is in a flair and not have sedation, he even says thats sadistic.

Well, you'll be given a list of what you can and can't have for the first 24 hours and the coffee will probably
burn, so hold back on that, I followed this list to the tee and ended up with such an inflammed throat that
I had to use steroids, which my asthma doctor ordered as my gi doc wouldn't see me, so I fired him.......
Anyways, hope it went okay for ya...
