husband has pain on right side of head by ear.and wont go away

My husband is 30.He has been having lots of pain on his right side of his head by his ear.And pain in the ear.And it is constant pain.It never goes away.Tests are normal.However we are trying to get into his doctor again.Any answers?thanks

What 'tests' produce normal results?

Silly question, does he have TMJ????? or does he grind his teeth or grit them???? I grit my teeth because of my back which now I have TMJ and migraines.

My husband had torn his rotary cuff and didn't know it. Other than the shoulder pain he had that same pain. Sharp pain by his ear and in his ear he would get such terrible headaches from the pain.

BTW Welcome I'm sorry he is feeling so terrible

Hi and welcome to the CP forum and to Healing Well!!

I'm sorry your hubby is in such pain. There are so many things that could cause head pain from infections to pinched nerves to migraine and cluster headaches to unknown causes. They can come for no reason and seem to go the same way or can stay for what seems like forever.

Can you share what tests he's had done, what kinds of doctors he has visited? Has he had an MRI?

A couple of ideas that might help....first keep a journal of his pain. Below is a link to a journal page you can print for free. Fill it out each day and take it all to your doc on every visit so he/she can get a clearer picture of his pain. This will also show the doctors that you are very serious about this problem and keep from being brushed off. Second, consider going to a teaching/university hospital that is nearest you. They can recommend a doctor who works there or you can ask your current doctor for a referral to someone there. These folks are on the cutting edge of technology and are often the ones who can find solutions when others can't.

I hope some of this helps and please keep us posted on how he's doing,

Maybe it's time your husband saw a good neurologist to rule out serious issues. But it could be
Migraines, but it's best for your husband to see a specialist to determine this.

My problem is similar, Monday night, after I returned home from vacation, I started to get this really bad pain on the right side of my head and into my ear down into my shoulder. I currently dont have health insurance so Doctors/neuro's would be very expensive at this time. The pain i feel is sharp, to where nothing works to get rid of it. Ive taken advil, Pain relievers, Excedrin for headaches, tried cool showers, warm cloth on head, Almost everything I can think of.
Any ideas?

There are so many things that can cause ear/head/neck pain.

Ear infections
Hard piece of wax lodged in the ear canal
Bad tooth
Abscessed tooth or other oral infection.
Sinus infection or other sinus problem.
TMJ
Pinched or irritated nerve
Wisdom teeth. (and yes you can have them for years before they can cause problems)
Blood clots
Weather changes.
Grinding your teeth or constant biting/clenching
Pulled muscle/muscle spasms.
Debris of some kind in the ear.

And the list goes on.

If your family physician can not pin point the cause a ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist really would be the next step I would try.

In the meantime if you really think the problem is in the ear you can try a few drops of sweet oil in the ear. It may help with the discomfort as well as loosen up anything in the ear that doesn't need to be there.
