Bad Night

Hi all,

This is very unusual for me....up late at night with pain. I can't sleep, can't lie down, have trouble sitting and am in quite severe pain tonight. I think this was self-inflicted this time. I was trying to help my dear wife who has been my lifeline in CP. She has been through her own problems with recent back surgery for pinched nerves (#2 for her in the same area of the spine) and she is recovering from breast cancer surgery and radiation. Between the two of us we try to keep things going around the house. But it is difficult. She has her limits with pain and fatigue from the radiation and I have my on-going severe back problems. I took some pain meds. Got feeling better and then proceded to do vacuuming and the kitchen floor using a wet scrub machine. Then I noticed our outdoor fish pond needed some attention so I cleaned the pump and filter to keep the little guys happy. We have between 14-16 fist covering 4 generations from an initial set of 4 fish!

Long story short....I didn't realize how much difficulty I was getting myself into until it was late in the day. Then it started and got worse fast. I have taken my limit of oxy 30 IR and I am just making it. If you see typos in this please excuse me since I am not thinking clearly because of the severe pain.

Now I know you are all going to tell me to not overdo things. Some of you may even tell me to hire in household help. So this will save you those posts! Stuff needs to get done and we only are the two of us. We are retired and can't really afford a house cleaner. We may have to give up something to get help but right now I can't think of how that can happen. I probably should not have taken the pain meds before starting all the house work but then it wouldn't has been done. Oh, and did I mention the baro pressure is dropping tonight. Swell. We've talked about that before here. So the cards are all stacked against me and I was just trying to do the right thing. Good thing I gave up drinking some time ago. Alcohol and oxy are a potentially deadly combination.

I've rambled on enough. Can't sit any longer. I'll try ice next.

Modlemaker, you probably have lots of company when it comes to overdoing it. It seems to be easy to see things that need to be done and things you used to do to kick into gear and not realize how much you actually do. I don't like to pay the price but there are times when knowing that I actually did something of value around the place allows me to tolerate a little extra pain. I hope you don't suffer to much.

((((((((((Model))))))))))))). I think we all have a tendency to overdo it on those rare days when we are "feeling good." It is hard not to want to take advantage of those moments, even though we know that we will likely regret it later on. I do feel for you.

I can completely relate to being up all night in severe pain. Unfortunately, most of my nights are spent that way. I can only sleep when I eventually "pass out" from exhaustion, if I do. It is a horrible thing. I hate how CP affects us on so many different levels.

Try to relax. Use some heat or ice, and just take it easy. I wish I could say something more helpful. We all know what you are going through. Hang in there! I hope you get some sleep and some relief.

Modelmaker, I pretty much agree with what everyone has said here. I understand and I really am sorry you are suffering so much. Hopefully you will have a better night tonight. I sure wish you one. Maybe when you have to do these things that are especially hard on you do them in spurts. I know it takes longer, and that in itself is frusterating. But maybe taking frequent breaks and resting a little may help out. I hope you feel better soon.
