Ok I have been so busy replying to posts since my last appointment that I have posted an update yet.
I went to the PM and we went over how the 3 nerve blocks went. I had sat down with my husband the night before to think over what has happened so far.
Most of you know I started with 3 injection 1 every other week. Its been two weeks since the last injection which ended the series. I feel I gained a 25% relief in pain on my right urological side. The injections sucked, one gave me a migrane and an ER trip, one hurt REALLY bad and the other went fine. But after talking with the hubby we agreed any relief is worth any complication minus death of course. My only concern about continuing is getting off track with the right and left sides. I would love to have them both with some relief at one time.
I told the doctor. She set me up with 6 sets of injections every monday. We will alternate each week on each side. Hopefully this will give a combined relief. After the six weeks we will see how long I sustain some pain control.
I told her my pain meds cover my daytime while I'm at work. They have only presribed 4 percs 10/325 a day. With my work and all the lifting I do I take my first one at 4:30 am and my last at 6 pm then I'm out for the day. So she prescribed Tramadol. I started to laugh. I used to take them a long time ago and they worked like asprin. She informed me there are new ones that are time released over 24 hours and we would start out with 200 mg and possibly go up to 300 mg. I used to take 50 mg so maybe this will make a difference. There are two of these pills on the market but one gives you an immediate peak effect so she told me to take it at night to cover the baseline pain I have during the night.
We even talked about when the disease progresses what we will do. There are 7 doctors in the pain group. 6 deal with moderate CP with guidelines on what they can prescribe. Then there is 1 that deals with longterm severe pain. He is allowed to presribe more and at higher levels. She said he has to educate himself on a regular basis with classes and seminars. We are hoping this won't be for another year or two. She told me not to worry they will handle my condition for years to come.
Ok now I think I covered it...lol
