c5 c6 bulging disc neck shoulder pain

help c5 c6 anyone know anything on selfhealling im in germany and the very first doc i went to after my mr1 and all he said was surgery there is very little help here i go to a tharapy once a week not nar enough i think i asked my family doc for a neck brace and she said that i should be moving my neck and i feel it would help healing time but all i have to go on is everything i read on the web im 43 as of 3 days agao and never had any neck trouble i woke one day it felt like i pulled a shoulder muscle and it just got worser by the day i have bad shoulder pain and my arm i made a head band and rope up to a pully and pull a little to take some preassure off but now im at the point where it seems to be steady no better no worse but alot of pain hot cold packs.

but i reafuse the surgery thay will have to wait till i cant walk anymore before thay cut and glue and screw me togather

I am sorry you are hurting.  I have exactly the same thing.  I have had it for years.  You might want to google exercises to help bulging neck discs.  I got a referral for physical therapy and that helped me a lot.  I did the exercises everyday or every other day.  I only went once a week too. 

I don't want surgery and I will do anything to avoid that.  My doctor would not recommend surgery for a bulging disc.  I have found several things that help.  One of them is to stand with your feet as wide apart as you can comfortably stand.  Then, bend at the waist and allow your head and neck to be gently stretched by gravity.  I do this at least 3 times a day.  I will let my neck stretch for 3 or 4 minutes each time.  I also do a lot of up-right stretching and strengthing exercises.

Hi MRMR and welcome to our little family. I had a fusion done almost 3 months ago because I was in horrable pain from my neck down through my left shoulder, chest arm and hand. Then I started loosing feeling and had an anoying numbnes which scared the crap out of me. He took out one disk but left the 3 ruptured disks above the fusion alone. He first told me he was going to do a triple fusion but changed his mind. I still haven't descided if this was a good or bad plan but while inside, he descovered that there was a bone growth or spine where I had broken my neck 30 years ago which was crushing the nerves leading to my left side which he fixed. The pain & numbness that was there is all but gone but my neck or spinal collum still hurts. Maybe because I've injured it twice since my surgery, I'm not sure yet. Anyway, I do know a little about neckpain. One thing that is really important is the pillow you use. My doc told me that your head should be as level as possable, not cocked up, down, or to either side!!! You may not notice anything while you're sleeping but when you wake, the pain is there and it sucks!!!! Another thing, hot showers and heating pads have saved me on many ocasions. hi, i just joined and have no idea what i am doing so please be gentle with me eyes

i read a little about other posts here and can relate. i have just had 'another cat scan' which told my gp that i have a bulge in my c5 c6 disc (, plus alot of other long words)

basically, i woke up 6 months ago with my left leg and arm not working, plus i couldn't speak correctly nor swallow, disorientated too. sent to hospital and they admitted me with stroke, then tia, then of course they found out i had bipolar so i was made to feel like an idiot and sent home (others with mental illness will know what im talking about) it took ages before i could talk or walk better.

anyhoo, i have been in heaps of pain since. sent to a neurologist which did heaps of tests including mri etc and diagnosed me with hemiplegic migraine, which is fine but this migraine has gone on for 6 months daily. again, another doctor who judged me on bipolar and treated me like an idiot and that was that.

today, i am a mess, my left side is in such pain i cry off and on. mood swings like you wouldnt believe, ongoing chronic pain with no pain relief. my whole left side is killing me, starting to become incontinent and unable to walk properly. sent a letter to neuro but no reply. frustrated to the hilt. taking sleeping tablets to just ease the pain (knock me out)

just don't know what more i can do, spent all my money on these doctors that when they have no idea send me away. grrr.

sorry, im in a bad mood, pain too much

has anyone else experienced stroke like symptoms with the neck disc bulge?

Mrmr6366, so sorry you are hurting with your neck issue. I also had a buldge in that area and surgery was recommeded. It didnt need to be right away, just when I was ready. Unfortuenetely, I fell and made a surgery in the future turn into an emergency surgery to restore function due to severe compression. I must say that I was feeling good right away and have no significant problems from going thru with the fusion surgery. I also regained all feeling within a few weeks. Its easy to find bad results online but not good stories, but they are out there.

As for what you can do for now, the ice and heat are good. Can your PT give you some home therapy suggestions? Depending on which way your disc is buldged that determins which way you should be bending to get the best results. Hopefully you can avoid surgery, early on it is possible.

I do hate to disappoint, but this thread is over 3 years old. Welcome to the forum ouchywawa, if you dont mind, can.you start a new thread with your back ground and questions in it, not sure if anyone else will see your post here, and I'm sure one of the moderators will be along to ask the same thing, and lock this very old thread.
