Leg Pain...Here we go again

I am really down today. I was up and down most of last night with a stabbing pain in my left thigh going to the knee. This one is familiar. I had it about 10 years ago and ended up having a laminectomy and fusion to fix it. The surgery fixed the leg pain but added to the chronic back pain in the process. Now the leg pain has returned. darn, I thought once fixed these pains did not return. I remember asking the surgeon at the time if it could come back. His answer was possible but highly unlikely. Always so helpful. Well, now it's back. I hope that it is just something I have done recently and some rest will calm things down. But this is sooo much like before I am concerned.

Has anybody in the group had this kind of pain return?

I have a MRI in the morning for the exact same pain. When I went to the PM doctor yesterday, he ranged my whole body during the exam. When I got home by 10PM, the pain in my right leg was shooting down my leg, the flexiril didnt touch it. This is the pain I had before both discectomies on T11. I am afraid to see what the MRI shows but at least I will have answers to what I have to do and live with. Did you update your MD? It might just be a pinched nerve.

I just want to say how sorry I am and how disappointed you must feel. I would hug you too, if I was there. I have pain in both legs, but never had surgergy. I think you have to be very fortunate to find a good doctor, I never have. They seem to want to just brush you off. I pray a lot and always have visions of finding a Dr. House. A Doctor that won't give up and one that knows more than we do.

I pray your pain calms down and goes away.

I too wish, I had words of wisdom. I try to give it to God b/c man (the doctors) have disappointed me and my husband so often.

I hope your pain goes away for you and you find some comfort and peace some way.

I'm sorry to hear that your leg pain has returned! That must be incredibly frustrating! You went through so much in order to take care if it & not it is back, plaguing you again! Of course I'm not a doctor, I just wonder if you could possibly have an in-trapped nerve that is causing this pain to reappear without warning? I'm sure you have a lot of scar tissue back there, so it seems plausible to me, that one of the nerves traveling through that region have been contrif

Thank you all for responding to my post. I think it was either a false alarm or a wake up call. I have been overdoing some things lately. A combination of yardwork and modelmaking that puts me in positions of bending at the waist for periods of time. It probably was a pinched nerve. I have been taking an enforced (by my wife) breather from some of that kind of work. More time resting between jobs and a focus on sitting and standing straighter all seemed to have eliminated the problem for now. But it just shows me how close the problem is lurking out there. A couple of wrong moves, bending over a model too long and BAM!

I did notice that when I had the really intense nerve pain, the oxycodone did not seem to touch it. It will handle the lower level pain but not the intense nerve pain. I guess I have been on it long enough to develop a high tolerance. I hate to go up in dose and if I behave (wife's term) I can avoid that.

Again, thank you all my friends for your concern. It really helped in a bad situation.
