Scared for my father

Hello, anyone reading this, my name is Levi, i have a father who when i was only 2 was robbed at gunpoint and shot 3 times inside a car. He survived, but barely, The bullets all hit his thigh and shattered the bone and he had a rod put in. After 8 surgerys he is doing a bit better but here is where the story gets worst. at the time of the shooting he was givin infected blood (Heptitus C) and that along with the shooting hes been in cronic pain. for 17 years he has been in this pain. He also has degenerate back disease and is on social security for Pain, nothing else. He had a decent quality of life when he was on Oxycoton. He was still in pain but able to go to by football games and spend time with all of his children.

We have bonded real well and now ever since here in ohio they have been making any long term pain patience go to these pain clinics he has been doing horrible. He can barley get off the couch without going into tears. They prescribe him morphine sulfate (which medicade desided febuary that they wern't going to allow him to take brand name)since his doctor wont prescribe him anything else and thinks my fathers a drug addict just because my father has a little pride and doesnt like showing his pain to others he wont act like hes in pain he seems semi-normal on the outside and now after all this time he has lost hope hes always in horrible pain and im afraid hes ready to take his life. all because one star had to OD on the same medicine my dad takes. I mean hell the clinic originaly perscribed my dad methodone which nearly killed my father and my dad told them he was allergic when it ended up swelling his mouth toung and throat nearly closed ive tried talking to a couple medical lawyers in my area and they all say we have no case. and if a doctor is allowed to do that and not get punished because he wouldnt answer the calls my dad made to him asking the doctor what to do. then i dont no. Im'm at the point in which ill do anything to help him even if that means.....well robbing a darn pharmacy.... I guess what im asking is is there anything i can do to help him? he's in pain day and night even in his dreams he cant escape. So if anyone knows anything i can do ill really appreciate it thanks in advance.

My advice is a bit different.

If I were you, I would take my father's story to the newspapers.

"Local man shot by robber, now having his life shot down by Medicair." type of story.

DO NOT ROB a pharmacy. You'll almost certainly caught very shortlly. Then you would MAYBE help your father ONCE. That would be a very short use of your life, regardless of how much love and pride it demonstrates for your father. It would be better to stay on the outside and fight the good fight, although this would also be the harder fight.

I am sorry that I have no other advice to give. If I think of anything else, I'll post back on the healingwell.com site.

     That is alot of stress! Sounds increadibly stressful and somehow I always feel a bit more sore when stressed! Serious. Dont think for one little moment that anyone here would ever dream of judging another soul.

 

      Since I just cant imagine what all your dad is going through.... Maybe some ideas instead. I heard sometime around feburary, that some states allow the use of that particular pain control method.. But the news story also talked about controversy amongst federal laws vs. state laws.

 

     There are some wonderful "roman cammomile and lemon grass" blends of tea. I think even a less potent version is sold at local grocers stores. But maybe a local co-op or health food store would provide better tea mix blends. For "oh my goodness" nausa I use just straight cammomile blends or cola syrup (childrens section). Once met a lady who swore by Valerian root tea.. but it makes me very sleepy so I dont drink it very often. That really only ideas I have, I know thou that some folks here, were able to get help from thier doctors. Some talk of suppositories that have mild to moderate side effects .. seems to depend on individual person thou. Thats about all the ideas i can think of.

I'm not sure whether you are just looking for advice about getting your dad medications, but I'm wondering whether he has tried any other treatments for his pain. There are a lot of different treatment modalities that many of us rely on to help us either in place of or in addition to medications. I'm sure others could add more ideas, but here are a few for a start:

physical therapy/aqua therapy, massage/osteopathy, acupuncture, chiropractic (only if an MD who has looked as scans has approved it first), injections, radio frequency, TENs, neurostimulation, braces/wraps, topical gels

Please know I'm not suggesting that your dad shouldn't be on meds, just that if getting meds is not possible that there are other treatments that might be helpful to him.

Hes tried most of those (cant remember which ones) and I'm not sure but i belive none really helped, well to justify there costs and well, yea i am looking for advice not exactly on medication but what i can do to increase his quality of life herbs or anything thats cheap and can help even a fraction. and you didn't sound like you were saying he shouldn't be on medication
