Dear Leve:
I just wanted to welcome you as well. I truly am so sorry for how bad your Dad is suffering. Has anyone ever suggested that he may be a candidate for a Spinal Cord Stimulator or Intrathecal Pain Pump? I have both and would be very happy to answer any questions I can that you or he may have about them. There are others on this forum that have one or the other or both as well.
It sounds like he has two issues: 1) Medicare will not cover the drug that helps him the most, and 2) His doctors will not try any other medications to see if there is something that will work better for his pain. As Dani said there are several others that are facing the same issue with Medicare and the post that I believe he is referring you too does have some wonderful suggestions. As far as the doctors, I'm wondering if he could change doctors?
I believe that there are pharmacuetical companies that are working on pain medications made from marijuana and they are available in some states. Maybe give a little more thought to Tony's suggestion about contacting the newspaper. It sounds like one picture of your Dad would make it very obvious that he wasn't running a "drug lab".
Please keep us updated on how you and your Dad are doing.
Lorie
Not sure but the Intrathecal Pain Pump is like (or is) A morphine pump isn't it? if so then he has tried to get one but insurance only will pay for surgery we would have to pay for the pump and the refills and thats alot of money I belive father said something like in the thousand(s) a month (dont quote me on that) but thank you for your support and about the doctor thing, um thats complicated father before all his problems (became horrible) saw a general practitioner (sp?) who he saw but due to a new law here he was outsourced to a pain clinic that is located in the "ghetto" of the nearest city which is a hour drive from here and thats the nearest one and there hes seen by 3 diffrent doctors who all pee test him every visit and are real jerks ive got to see it once and was floored by the lack of care there
Like i said before any tips on herbs or anything thats real cheap that you guys belive helps back & or nerve pain appreciate it
