Again, I am so so sorry about the situation that you are in! It's just not right, on any level! But I do agree with everyone else. Please go to the ER & get them to set you up with some help before you do anything drastic!

Me, I have been thinking about you. I feel bad for all of us telling you that it would be alright and all would work out for you. I think we all honestly thought that would be the way it would be. I am soo sorry for getting your hopes up to be let down like this. I wish there was something I could say that would help you get through this. It is so very unfair. You did nothing wrong. This was not your fault. I simply can't understand why your PM does not see this. I understand that I am sure they hear alot of stories. But, my gosh yours IS true! I would think seriously about finding another PM completely. This is unacceptable that they will not even get you through the withdrawls. You have been on methodone. I am so sorry. I wish that I could give you my shoulder in person. You are in all of our thoughts. Maybe you should consider finding a new PM and canceling your contract with the current one. I would also report this PM doctor to the board. He is putting your health at risk by not helping you. I feel this is negligent on his part. I may be wrong, but it is the way I feel. Post as often as you like. I wish there was something else I could say. I wish I could help...

     Im so sorry I didnt respond till now, yesterday I went to that odd endocronology fellow ... I just didnt look at the thread, I mean, I really did think everything would be okay.

 

      I dont really understand "stretching" you pills for extra days?!?! They are in the toilet for goodness gosh darned sakes. And since WHEN is it okay, for a nurse, ANYONE to treat you like that?? I dont care if you ve got purple nails and pink hair 80yrs old, cant jsut reat people like that. ANd What the heck are they THINKING! Im not one to jump on the doctor bashing train... But where and who is takeing responsability for you care? Diabetic AND high blood pressure... and they KNOWINGLY added in withdrawl? My head is spinning , im floored you are told to endure through such things as thou your body has the ability?? Without help?

     And NO! No of course you arnt a bad person, so beautiful and brave. If I had just a fraction of your strength I would be limitless! Dont you ever think for one second, no matter what happens, that you are a bad person. No way!  

 

     I wish more than anything there was some way I could help. I dont understand. How long have you been seeing this doctor? Jogg my memory? Holy cow. There has got to be more ramifications for docotrs, legally speaking. If we dont get better regulations reguarding preditory and negligent doctors this "epidemic" of sorts will continue to spread. Just a shame, what on earth was he thinking.. WHat? Was your docotr thinking?

I just signed on and read your email and thread.  I'm wondering what pain clinic you are going too.  Please don't tell me it the Pain Group in Antioch.  If its not then you might want to consider changing to them.  I know that won't help at the moment but it can in the future.

I think I'm alittle lost...  So you only got to see the nurse, not the doctor.  The one you are really needing is the PM doctor more then likely his staff is running interferance.  I understand the PCP not wanting to get involved with writing scripts for narcs but I don't understand why they won't help with withdrawls.

I would really be pushing for a sooner appointment.  Holiday schedule MY BUTT!!!!  You seem to have just gotten some rude people to deal with.

I will think more about this and send you an email with anything I can think of.  But please tell me which PM you are seeing. So I NEVER go there....

uniquelyme, I'm not making any judgements about obtaining the methadone how ever you choose, but I did want to point out one risk that wasn't addressed before.

At my pain doctor's office, if you've reported that your drugs are gone (stolen, lost, abducted by aliens, whatever) then you're automatically drug tested at your next appointment. If a person were to "replace" their medication by obtaining it from an alternate source, they will test positive for the medication when they should be negative. At that point, they get the big boot out the front door of the clinic.

If your doctor uses that same approach, you're facing a huge risk of being without a doctor and meds permanently, in an effort to get through the shorter-term problems.

I do appreciate how worried everyone is about me...I do know the risks, but 2 weeks without anything is more then I can bear...Seriously, I can't do it. It is the worst thing I have ever gone through and it is getting worse every day..no amount of praying, thinking good thoughts, or trying to be strong will help. I have told others the same thing..."you can get through this, you're strong". I wish it were that easy. The withdrawls are mindblowing to say the least. Methadone is one of the worst drugs to withdrawl from. When I go back to the Dr. on the 9th...yes the 9th!! I am going to change to something else...anything else. I need something that helps but isn't this tough to detox from.

Maybe I should just come off of this for good. No, that is not an option, my pain is too great to think about that.

Right now my mind is like mush...my back is hurting worse than ever, my legs and my knees are killing me. Spasms...all the time. What am I supposed to do? Can anybody help me?

Me, I can't stop thinking about you. I have had you on my mind almost constantly. I wish you weren't having to deal with this... I really don't know what to tell you. I guess maybe get the phone book out first thing in the morning and start calling PM doctors' offices. Ask if you can be seen asap-that day. If so, I would go to the appt., explain the situation, try to get meds, and then fire your other PM. I think what is happening in that office is wrong!!! You have other health issues and should not be made to go through withdrawls.I do also agree that it sounds like the messages may not have reached the doctor and may have been intercepted by the nurse or one of the girls up front. And they are just following the "rules". That is another possibility... Maybe call that office one more time and see what they say. If the answer remains, then I would seriously consider changing PM doctors. You are not being treated correctly. This is just inhumane...

I'm not suggesting you just use positive thinking or praying or stay strong and you'll get through this. I'm suggesting you go for some alternate medical care - at an E.R. or detox facility, depending on what's available. You need some medical help with this.

Please, get some help. Even at an E.R. you can ask for them to refer you to another pain management specialist. I think you'll get some attention at an E.R. especially with your other medical problems.

Bionic also made an excellent point; you may decide to detox from the methadone and try other options, but if you screw up with this pain management doc because of a bad urine or blood screen, you could be out of luck for pain management.

I wish I had a magic want, but I don't. I hope you decide to get some help.

Please take a deep breath and then explain to me why you are avoiding the Emergency Room. Detox is a serious matter that requires medical supervision. According to your story, you have done nothing wrong and have absolutely no need to fear your ER. If you think you are in some way protecting your son....by not seeking out treatment, you are certainly not doing him any favor at all. I realize he has problems, but if you are risking you health and life so that his deeds remain "hidden you are becoming an enabler. In addition, how are you going to properly supervise him when you are in the middle of detoxing yourself

Please seek the care you need from your ER and also make sure your son is accountable for his actions. You need to stay healthy and on top of your game to handle this situation. You do not ever want to give you son the idea that you will cover up his inappropriate actions. You have not idea what he might do about your medications next.

Uniquelyme, I am so sorry that you were treated the way you were. I can't change that and unfortuantely, we are all at risk of being treated with scepticism from the medical field if something happens that is beyond our control. I know you used a lock box. It was not that you were not aware that your pills could end up missing. You knew that and took steps. To be held to a standard that is almost impossible is not fair. I urge you to try and contact the doctor again. I know that originally I encouraged you to write a letter to the doctor describing how the incident took place and advise the doctor that you would bring your son in with you if he required it. I still think you should write that letter and hand deliver it to the dovtor's office and ask if you can remain in the office until the doctor reads it. I would not give up without trying. Before you do something else that could have lasting consequenses, please try one more time with your doctor. I wish there were more that we could do to help you. Who do you have around you right now for support? Know that we care.

I am not avoiding the ER...I just know from past experiences of others that they don't like people that take Methadone and they really don't do anything to help.  I know it sux, but that's the stigma I live with.  I am lucky in one respect, I found a daily pill box that I had been using and I had put some methadone in it..only about 46, but if I only take 5 a day I can get through a few days...It was like Christmas morning when I found them last night.  I thought it was a dream at first until I woke up today and there they were.  You have no idea how relieved I feel.  I had thought the worst, felt the worst, and didn't do anyting stupid.  And I feel like I was rewarded for that.  So, I think I will be okay, now...As long as I can keep the pain under control...I mean, I have been taking 120 mg. a day for 4 years!!! nAnd now to go without for several days, then go down to 50 mg. a day....I'm not too sure how it will affect me, but it is better then nothing right?

So sorry I haven't been around! We were hit by a horrable storm and I lost power. We ended up having over $600. damage from the ligtning strikes to our A.C, electric and phones. I'm so sorry for what you have been going through, how awful of your so called dr. to let you suffer like that. It sounds like your Guardian Angel paid you a visit and left those extra methadone pills where you could find them! You must be so relieved! I know it's less than you are used to but it will be 100% better than none at all! I feel bad I wasn't there for you when you wrote me. I'm going to try harder to keep up w/ my fams here and read and reply more. Now that I'm not working, it seems like I have less time w/ everything there is to do at our property in the country and traveling the 250 miles to take care of the other house at least once a week! I'm much happier beeing w/ my wife than I've been in a long time so it's worth it!

Oh, unique, I am so sorry. My ex was also bipolar and I had the same thing happen. He used to steal my percs and go sell them so he could get cocaine. First I bought a lock box and kept my pain meds locked up in that. That was good for a few months until one day when I was out and he broke the lock on it. So, I opened a safety deposit box at the bank and went there twice a week to get enough of my meds for 3 days and kept the rest locked up at the bank.

I know, it seems like and is a royal PITA, but when you are dealing with bipolar people, its how you have to live.

As for your pain control, if you aren't willing to tell your doctor the truth, your going to have to take smaller doses for the next 2 1/2 weeks and try to survive. I really feel so bad for you.

WEll, I DID tell them what happened...on more than one occasion.  They wouldn't help me.  I have never lied to my pain Doc..Once, when my BT meds didn't show up in a UA I told them the truth...the ones they had me on didn't help and I ended up taking extra and ran out a few days before the visit.  It never helps to lie to them.  And yes, it is rough dealing with someone who is Bipolar, especially when it's your 16 yr. old son.  We have only been dealing with it for a few months so it is really new to me.

If I can make it until I get back to the Dr. on the 9th I will be so thankful...This has been thw hardest thing for me.  Not only having to go through the pain...but also the withdrawls.  I tried, a few months ago, to change from Methadone to Morphine and had a very rough time of it.  They didn't give me the equivilant dose so I had to deal with pain and withdrawls then too.  I finally went back to Methadone because I don't know of anything that will work as well for the pain.

Thanks my friend...I know you have been going through a lot of your own stuff, and I am just greatful that you find any time to help me at all.... I know I have been going through this "POOR ME" phase for the past week or so...but as soon as I get my meds straightened out I will be right back in the game...For now, not so much.

me, my goodness what a week. i'm sorry for what is happening. but i agree with everyone else. i would have asked for the dr- my clinic has nurses too and when i feel i am not getting anywhere with them i will ask for the dr. and i know what you mean about the er. i feel like i gamble when i go to mine too. luckily my blood pressure spikes when i am in pain. i went the other day with diverticulitis and between it and my back it was 207/170. crazy. the drs couldn't move quick enough for dilaudid in my veins!!
i am glad you found those extra pills, good lord what a blessing. that never happens for me. once i found 3 under my bed (i know, thats when i took oxycodone) they were so tiny i guess they slipped. but seeing as i have 3 small dogs i am thankful, so thankful one of them didn't eat one. (shudders)
if you start to feel bad, please go to the er, like i said your blood pressure will prove you are in pain. they can't ignore that. good luck and keep us updated.

and what meds have you tried? there are things stronger than methadone thats for sure. (to me, anyhow)

I'm not sure what else is better then Methadone....Also, when you change from Methadone to anything you usually go through withdrawls...I hate that.  What other meds are you thinking of?  When I go back I am thinking of trying something else.....

Yes, my BP goes sky high when my pain is out of control...but the ER doesn't like to mess with CP patients...

Hi uniquelyme I am from the Lyme disease board. Is your name a reference to Lyme disease do you have it? Or is it some other reason. I just wondered because I know that Lyme can cause bi-polar symptoms. Lyme can be passed to children , i should prob try to research your story. I just wondered if it was something to consider for your son or not. Sorry if this offended u in any way. I just want to help.

I was in the ER here at StoneCrest in Symrna about 2 months ago with HUGE amounts of pain.  My regular pain meds were not cutting it.  The ER down here is SO understanding.  And everyone is right your BP will prove your in PAIN.  I even brought my regular pain meds with me and they knew I still had alot left so it wasn't like I was needing a fix. They were so great the doctor was so sympathetic to CP'ers. 

So not all ER's dislike CP'ers.  You just have to find the right hospital.

Rhonda think about that the next time you need help.  Go to StoneCrest.  They will help you.....

Uniquelyme, I just wanted to let you know that I am still thinking about you. I know that what you are going through is worse than horrible. I feel for you.  We are all hear for you. I am glad that you are still posting. Keep it up if you can. The 9th is coming. I know it seems so far away. Do you still plan to go back to the same PM? I am not sure if I would or not. But that is only for you to decide. I do understand the contract. And I understand the rules and regulations. I signed another agreement yesterday with my PM. But I simply do not agree with the Dr. on this. You have literally been left out in the cold!!! I should not be going on. This is not helping you any. I think all of us here feel the same way about this. And we feel it b/c we all care for you. I will send you a big hug. You need it. Sorry it can't be in person. I sure would if I could.

I hope you are doing a little better.  I just wanted to put one more suggestion out there if things get worse (please don't try to get meds on your own -- who knows what you will actually get.  I had a friend who almost died doing that b/c she got something other than what she thought she was getting) -- in the past I had a bad experience & I contacted my PCP who admitted me directly to the hospital (no ER).  It worked out quite well.  They gave me about a hundred lectures about how they were not going to give me any pain meds, but I have a heart condition so, like you, I cannot just go through withdrawals safely without any meds.  They set me up with bloodpressure medicine & monitored me for a while.  When they released me, they gave me Catapres patches to help with the symptoms.

I have to agree with everyone else here.  It is understandable that your PM would not give you more methadone, but to not give you anything for the withdrawal symptoms is unreasonable.  Even if it had been 100% your fault -- which it wasn't -- they still ought to be willing to treat you with non-narcotic meds to get the withdrawal symptoms under control.  That is really cruel & I think pretty much any other PM would be doing something to help you right now, so I hope you are able to choose someone else once you get through this.

No, no offense taken.  I don't know anything about Lyme Disease...I do remember having a tick in my head when I was really young....Had to use gasoline to get it out.  But that was a long time ago on a camping trip.  I know that some of my back trouble is inherited from my dad, he also had Spinal fusion surgery when I was 3 or 4. 

I didn't know that Bipolar and Lyme disease are connected in any way.  Tell me more.

Sorry I havent written anything to you yet on here, but I so feel sorry for you, if I could I would help you, but I wouldn't know how( but if you can think of a way, let me know). I always keep a small stash (actually in my case I have a huge stash) of my meds in case of emergencies like yours that are hidden very well so in case my regualuar meds disappear I would have enough to last me atleast a month. I dont know if this a bad thing to do, but it's kinda my 'security blanket' as withdrawals scare the heck out of me, I dont think anyone likes it, but if I can advoid i, I will. I would be careful of the ER, as one time when I was very ill (vomiting every 10 mintues for 6 hours straight) I decided to go to the ER to get something for nausea. Well I waited 4 hours before I saw the doctor, and she gave me 2 things for nausea through IV that didnt work, and I was still complaining, and the doctor came in and yelled at me that she WASNT giving me any methadone as she doesnt prescribe that stuff, I was so ill from vomiting, but I'm confused on why she said that as I wasnt out of methadone, or was asking for pain meds, and was sent home still vomiting. And if you hapen to get a nice doctor, the most they may give you is like 10 5mg hydrocodones, maybe, JUST maybe, 5mg percocets, which comparred to methadone is nothing, you'll still be in withdrawals, and not to forget a referal to a rehab, even if you tell them your a chronic pain patient and brought with you the proof. And of course they'll wanna call your pain doctor who may or may not help you, but since you said they wouldnt help you now, I doubt they will if the ER calls them. But if your in pain they may give you toradol for pain (NSAID) and somethng for nausea and fluids, but even then you'll still feel terrible. Well have metioned before that opioid withdrawals wont kill you, but sometimes having underlying conditions can get aggrevated and that can kill you, so if maybe going to a rehab center will help, but if you have medcaid like me they'll just throw you into a jail cell like room and watch you suffer (I have no expereince of this but I have heard), but if you have private insurance you may get a real nice place that will take care of you. But if your like me, I have a real fear of being locked up in a room, so that would just make me severly depressed and I will go crazy, I'm sure of it. Have you tried maybe finding a doctor that does Suboxone, maybe you can get on that short term till your appointment so you wont have withdrawals, I dont know what else to say that anybody else hasnt said. but stay safe.

uniquelyme, I also forgot to add that this happened to my aunt a LONG time ago. She was dying of breast cancer that went to her lungs, she was DYING, and her daughter couldnt stand her being sleepy all the time pain killers and heard from her friends that they where bad, so she flushed them down the toilet. I dont remember what she did about this, as my aunt died back in 1998 when I was a little girl, I just remember my family making a big deal out of it. I just wouldnt wait til the 9th, you cant and shouldnt be able to wait that long. I hope something good happens your way, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Once I go back on the 9th you had better believe that I will also have my own stash...for just this kind of thing.  I never in a million years thought something like this would happen...and I never thought that my Dr. would leave me out in the cold.  I really thought, especially after reading what everybody had to say, that they would help me.  Unfortunatley, I have nothing else I can do.  I did find some methadone in a daily pill box from a couple of months ago in my underwear drawer....I know that sounds odd....but it has helped me for the past few days...Of course I don't have enough to get me through until I go back, so that anxiety is still right there with me.   I have nightmares about medication, about not having it, and going through the withdrawls is almost unbearable.  The sweating, nausea, well...the list is endless.  Of course having Diabetes and HBP isn't making this easier.....

Every day seems like an eternity...I wish that something...or someone could help me.  But.....well, that won't happen.

I appreciate all the good thoughts, but all they really do is make me think of how stupid I am for being in this situation in the first place.

You don't know how much I want to take my regular dose of methadone.....I dream of it, andf when I get up I realize that the day won't get any better.... I don't know....I hope I can make it...

I also have dreams ALL the time about my meds being stolen or lost, and I mean like every other night. And they'll be so real that I always wake up and making sure my meds where still here. I know so many addicts that I dont trust (my city is has alot of addicts to all kinds of drugs)that I know will do anything for meds, so I dont let them know I have anything, but it still worries me. Well I'm glad you found those extra methadone, that must of been like christmas morning when we where 6 years old lol. But you said it wasnt enough to get you through, darn it. I keep trying to dig through my brain to figure out something for you, I have kinda been in your situation before. I had a doctor that was a jerk and I told him he was being mean and he kicked me out with no plans for meds, and I tried to find another doctor but no other doctor coiuld help me as the other PM doctors didnt take my insurance or wernt taking new patients. I even tried calling back that wasnt taking my insurance pretending to not have any insurance and a self payer, but they wanted $400 for the first appointment and $150 their after plus any procedures they may wanna do, it would of been great if they took my insraunce, but being on SSI it was out of the question to pay out of pocket. So I was of course freaking out and I knew a guy that sold methadone and lots of them, I mean hundreds, it was so tempting. That's when I got scared and finally begged this PA to give me 2 weeks worth of methaodne til I found a doctor somewhere, and she did it, but said she couldn't keep prescribing it as she was not a pain doctor. That's when I decided that bieng on pain meds was too much for me and wanted off but didnt want to deal with withdrawals so I got on Suboxone. I called a doctor that I found on the suboxone websight and he was able to get me in the very next day. Sorry to be going on with my story, I just wish their was something I could do as I have been in your place and I remember being so upset that nobody could help me, that they prescribe me these meds and then just like that they wanted me to suffer, it just isnt right. It's not like you sold them or took them all too fast, they should know this from the history with you, grrr. But seriously, if you can think of anyway I could help please let me know on here or email me.
