Since getting back my left shoulder, left arm and hand have been hurting pretty bad.
I saw the doctor on tuesday, changed me from Vicodin to MSIR and has yet to order up
some mri's, I can't type good, or do my needlework as it hurts to hold it and my hand clenches
and I just really really needed to get that out. I wish they'd call and get the stupid mri's done..
I never had this trouble before that car wreck but after, well my left side just goes wackey
on me for long car trips and lets face it Texas to Michigan is a whopper (1,255 Miles one way)
but this is the first time I've hurt this bad, anyways could use some info on MSIR, can heat
effect it as it's been around 110 + here with heat index, this is about
the only thing I couldn't find on google is how heat effects medicines, like with antibotics you'll burn
easier, or certain anti depression med but how about msir???
so sorry probably was a silly question//???

Hi Char,

I'm so sorry that you are having shoulder, arm, & hand pain now! What a pain (no pun intended)! I hope that you aren't left handed -- I know too well the joys of having to avoid using your dominant arm! Maybe you should pick up an OTC sling at the pharmacy, until they figure out what is going on, that way, if your arm gets really bad, you can just let it rest for a while? Can you use your arm any longer if you were to rest your elbow on something? This is the only way that I can drive -- if I rest my left elbow on the arm rest or window ledge on the side of the door, as my shoulder gets fatigued & starts to hurt very quickly if I don't (I hate to say it, but after all my shoulder surgeries, I learned to drive with one hand & while balancing ice on my shoulder! Needless to say, I only did that when I was desperate & I don't do it anymore, but it did make me learn how to adapt my driving style into something safe & comfortable).

I can't help you about the morphine, as it is one of the few meds (or so it feels) that I haven't been on. You may be able to find the info online, or if not, your pharmacist can surely tell you. I do know what you mean, though. I got really badly sunburned when I was on amitriptylene (they did list it as a side effect, although it was one of the less common ones).

I hope your doctor gets his game together soon & figures out what is going on! I can't even imagine how harsh a 1255 mile trip would be on a normal body...! I hope the new med helps too! (((((((((((((((((Char)))))))))))))))))))))).

I can only echo Skeye's words. So very sorry you're having more pain. The sling idea sounds like maybe it would help. Maybe you just need to give yourself a bunch of TLC and not use that arm and hand for awhile to compensate for the stress of the trip?

Unfortunately I can't help you with the MSIR either. But you know none of us should be out in the sun much - and especially without sun block.

Hi Char, I just wanted to add my sympathies too. I've also had shoulder reconstructions and have taught myself to drive with holding the bottom of the steering wheel. Not that it helps you!!! Big cyber hugs and I hope the MRI's show whats going on for you. The shoulder has so much movement I know it makes it a very complex joint. I sincerely hope you get some answers soon, golitho.

    *warmest huggs* I wish I knew. Just dont know that much yett about medicines. But I'm so sorry you cant even do needlework. I hate it when I cant even distract myself ! *huggs* Stay strong. I hope they call soon.

I guess I'll call on Monday to see about the MRI, sure would be nice if they could be scheduled
without any waiting, the pharmacy still didn't have the new medicine MSIR so I got to check back again today.
I'll guess I'll ask the pharmacy, but usually they have vage answers and well it's just so hot here
not so much sunburn type info just if heat effects this med as it's 100+ even in the shade, but I limit
my trips to night time around 7 pm or later, but with orientation we'll have to be outside in the heat in the daytime
so I'm not looking forward to being out....

Well, Kroger finally got my medicine in (msir) and I took one tonight for first time, well at first
nothing, but about a 1 1/2 after taking it, it has helped!! woohoo, it's nice not having some of
that stabbing pain...the pain is not totally gone but lessened for now....

Chartreux I'm glad you are finding some relief from the pain. I know its hard to find relief in hot weather. I take so many meds that heat and sun effects me. I work in a warehouse that gets over 100+ degrees. So I understand....

Now that you have found relief from a little of the pain now you need to find relief from the weather....

Hi Char,

I'm so pleased that you have already noticed a difference! That is fabulous! Hopefully the relief will become even more substantial, once you build up to a constant level of meds in your system!
