Not that my son has enough to deal with...now on top of being Bipolar he has Mono.. OMG!!!  What is next?  Now that the school year is upon us he has to stay at home for at least a couple of weeks... But thank goodness he is doing so much better with the mental issues...the Geodon is working great....

 

I am doing very good also...I go see my pain Doc on Thursday...Yippeeeee!!!!!!

I'm sorry your son has Mono. I've gone through it with 2 of my son's. One missed 1 month of school, the other missed 4 months - the school had to provide a tutor for them. The one that missed 4 months still battled episodes of chronic fatigue. Just make sure that he gets as much rest as his body needs, and I think a good multi-vitamin helps some with the fatigue that is left over after the initial illness part of it.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that his spleen will be enlarged for quite some time, so he has to abstain from any contact sports or "horsing around" so to speak with his buddies even if he feels physically strong enough.

I wish you and him the best, please keep us updated on his condition.

Thanks bluejet2...the Doc said that as of right now his spleen is ok..and I have started him on vitamins already. He has been so tired latley and I had no idea what was wrong...until now. So, I will watch him.

So sorry to hear of the mono, but that's great news about the bipolar stabilizing this soon in the process! I hope he stays on his meds!

I remember having mono as a child, when it had first been identified. I just remember being tired for months. Then in adulthood a doctor did a titer on me and found I had the Epstein Barr virus, but I guess quite a few of us harbor the virus even though we may have no active symptoms.

It's always something!

Good luck keeping your son under wraps with the mono!

I really hope your son feels better.... It's always something, isn't it?? I guess that's what keeps life interesting.

I had mono when I was 16; I think I missed about a month of school. I just remember being DEAD tired.

Anyway - hope he feels better. I'm glad to hear you are doing well, too...

Mono wow I have three kids and haven't went through that one yet.  I wonder who he was kissing... nono

Rhonda I feel for him my youngest well hes 15 broke his thumb he gets to go to school but its his writing hand. smilewinkgrin    He thinks thats cool for he gets to do everything orally. yeah

Is he handling it?

I'm sorry your son has mono, it can be hard on a child, I had it when I was
19 and I missed a month of college and everything, it really used me up.
so your son has my empathies and I wanted to wish him a speedy recovery
so send him my soft hugz and to just rest up, til his strenght comes back..

I glad to here that you son has stablized with his new antipsychotic. That is great news. Sounds like things are going smoothly at your house. i hope the next couple of weeks continue to stay on course. I am sure that having you son under control medically makes life much easier for you. You certainly do not need any additional pressure.

Thanks everyone...I really appreciate that yu all care abouyt what happens to me and my son... He is doing so much better.  Now that they have added the neurontin to the mix it seems to calm him down a bit more...no more outbursts.  But I know that it might not last....I am very hopeful.  The Mono has him in an uproar....the girl that he got it from has a boyfriend, and that is another problem....he really likes her and as far as I'm concerned she is not a very good person playing with my son like that....I hope it doesn't send him over the edge again...

Glad to hear that meds are finally starting to work for your son, but not about the mono! When I was a freshman in high school, I got some kind of virus that mimicked mono. It was awful. I've never been that sick before in my life. My throat almost completely closed up. Fortunately, it wasn't mono, so it went away after about a week and a half, but I was miserable. I still remember having to take these HUGE pills (they literally were about the size of some of the boluses we give cattle), and with my throat nearly completely closed off... Well, lets just say it wasn't fun!
I hope your son gets over his mono quickly!
I hope your doctor's appointment today went well!

Rhonda I'm so happy things are starting to get stabilized in your house in regards to your son. yeah    I really believe you are one of the strongest women I have came across in awhile. yeah    Even when you were out of your pain meds you showed so much strength. 

If it wasn't for the LOVE of your family you probably would fall apart.  Thank god for children even though sometime you want to put them away on the top shelf of the closet for a few years. turn

Hopefully here in the next month we can meet up for lunch.

Rhonda, great news about your son's theropy working! I hope he sticks with it and the meds continue working for a long>long time! Mono>YUK!!! I too had it when I was 14! I got it right as school was finishing up for summer vacation!!! It lasted all summer and I had to stay inside the whole time! I was a heartbroken kid as I had my first real girlfriend and didn't get to spend the summer w/ her!!! The worst part was she dumped me for my best friend and I couldn't do anything about it but stay home and be miserable! Enough about my ancient history!! I hope he rides right through it fast, some get it worse than others! God Bless him!!!
