Ah this is a very cool thread! 

One of my issues is word recall.  It is very common in MS.  It is also reasonably common for everyone so most of you can relate.  It is just that is happens a lot more for me.  One day I was on the phone and my husband was playing around with his jukebox.  The person on the phone wanted to know what was going on.  I tried to tell them that the jukebox was on.  I couldn't for the life of me remember what that darn thing was called.   It was going on several minutes now and no word.  I finally asked one of my boys, "what is that big thing called that is making all that music?"  Of course he just could not believe I had forgotten the name.  His face was a mix of real concern and disbelief.  I felt so bad for him that I just started laughing!  His face was so darn cute.  I tried to explain to him that this was just a minor thing with MS, don't freak!  Well now anytime I lose a word my family puts in "jukebox".  It can make from some funny statements.  IE;  Bring in the .......long pause......"jukebox" from the car.  No, the groceries!  smarty pants.

Heres a more recent one...

Have spent the last week organising with the Thai narcotics division (still have yet to receive approval) to take narcotics into the country for my honeymoon...My doctor (who has stated that he is to be 'Doctor of Honour' at my wedding next sat) and I have been going back and forth with ideas if I dont get approval (turns out you can get morphine but no oxy at the international hospital in Bangkok with a letter from your GP) but it is all still abit uncertain - cant afford to not have any, a honeymoon with withdrawals tagging along would be pretty ordinary methinks...

I told him as far as I know there were no laws against smuggling doctors into the country but the suitcase would not be the most comfortable method of travel

I name the equipment I have but wish I didn't need - so my two walking sticks are George and Cyril, my sling is Doris and my disabled parking badge is Bob. It's just more light hearted to say 'where's George?',  than 'can someone pass me my stick'. I also decorate everything - if I have to have sticks and slings, they can at least reflect my personality, the same way my clothes do. So George is covered with ladybugs and Cyril is blinged up with diamante-type stones. Doris has flowers sewn all over her.

My friends and I have also developed a whole glossary of terms, from the 'Star Trek chair' (my orthopaedic office chair) and 'the mother ship' (reclining armchair) to 'tactical sleep' (nap timed to then let me get through a social event or something) and 'wired for sound' (wearing the TENS machine).

I definitely think that doing that helps to give you back some power over the pain by laughing at it. I also find that the friends who help the most are often the ones who are most irreverent about the whole situation - laughing at it but without being cruel, and not gettimg embarrassed if I make a joke of it. It makes me feel 'normal' again.

Ohh, I can relate to the losing words. I lose words and just try to explain it so that the person will say the name of the word I am looking for (kind of like the game 'TABOO' if you have ever played it) So..my sentence went like this, "They had to take her by, uh....ya know? the car type thing..it looks like a box and has lights on top....it carries sick people" I could not, for the life of me, think of the word AMBULANCE! lol

TMI WARNING: I also have "code" words for things...like when I have to use the restroom and we are in public I will say to my husband..."I have to go to the bank...and make a DEPOSIT" instead of being gross and announcing to everyone that my dinner didn't sit well!

I try to call my meds by other names...Im paranoid about people knowing what I take

I am going to point to my back and say 'Jeb' which is Thai for pain (or so i have been told. It may mean I am a git or something similar

Sometimes with people who know me and know what i got i tell em when im sore (to humorise the situation a bit) that Arthur is giving me a hard spanking today lol

I cant tell you what a cow laughs like but I can tell you (as i live on a farm) a story about terrifying cows that is...well kinda related to having AS..

We had a situation where we had to catch some calfs to get them across a flooded creek..It wasnt to hard to catch them and stick them in a large feed bag (with their heads sticking out) to get them on the back of the truck. as my hip was painfull I couldnt drag them let alone lift them onto the truck so I had to wait while my dad went off and got the truck...

So im sitting on this calf in a bag waiting for the truck and the calf starts bellowing, bringing the whole herd (about 60) running over to see what was happening. well. mum cow runs over making the most ungodly noise imaginable (try getting a long tube and going MARRRARAARRRARRARRARRARR, that would be similar) seeing me holding the calf down and walks over slowly and starts eyeballing me about 2 inches from my face making that noise....either she was going to just keep doing that or she was going to attack. she didnt but it was terrifying all the same. I remember thinking at the time that AS was going to kill me in the form of a homicidal moo cow

This being a cow thing coud be fun and I might not even be laughing. I'm going to learn to switch from a cow to a vampire back to a human and heaven knows what else we all dream up.

Now I really can't stop laughing!!! I guess I haven't been around cows that much. Well, at least not a lot up close and personal as some of you have been! ;-)

But vampires can do all these neat things like jump really high (at least the guy in Moonlight could) and they can look like a human until those fangs come out! I don't think cows can do these things, but I may not know!!!! LOL

Maybe I don't want this cow bone in me, although I don't think I have much choice!

Ok, now I'm picturing a cow with fangs trying to put its tongue up its nostrils!

I think I want to be able to switch between being a vampire and a cow, and maybe other things.

This way nobody is going to know who's who. Or who's what!

Let's see, a bunch of cows and vampires, and cow vampires, in various doctor's waiting rooms! We could be hunted like Bonnie and Clyde, but we'll be quiet as we go from town to town, protecting the rights of CPP's!!
