Hi Everybody.  It's been several weeks since I have posted.  I wanted to get into the forum, however with being ill and having the nasty arthritis pain in my pelvic area, I just couldn't stand to sit, kneel, let alone try to get up once I was down even in a chair.  At that time I was pretty much in bed all the time anyway. I sure missed you all even though I am a new member.  But realize we all go through bouts of those horrid days and nights, plus have the depression that goes with it.

 

I have a couple of questions to ask regarding moving back to my home state, and going about getting a new pain management specialist there.  How does one go about it since we are dealing with some pretty heavy drugs?  Do I have to worry about getting a NEW referral when I get there?  Do I get something from my PM doctor here stating why I am under her care?  I was just told today that my Rheumi doc here wants to try to get me approved through Medicaire this drug by I.V. once a year.  (1500 per the one session) He also told me that he is suspiscious of some fracturing in my pelvic due to the Osteoporosis. Unfortunately, I am severely at the wrong end of the spectrum with Osteo. My Rheumi doc is the one who initially sent me to the PM Specialist in the first place.

 

My PMS is a wonderful pain management doctor and I hate leaving, however it is what we have to do for it is out of our control for now anyway.  We plan on coming back. I see her Aug 2 again and I plan on advising her then of what we have to do.  At my last visit, she upped my pain meds to Oxycodone and I was kind of scared to take it since I had never went higher than Vicodin.  However, the Oxy is a wonderful pain reliever. I at least have some sort of relief and that is a blessing. I am scared that I will be left with no PM Specialist and am really stressing over it.What are the complications I may run into doing this?  Can anybody help? rolleyes

Granny I am so sorry to hear that you are going to be moving and having to leave good drs behind because they are so hard to find these days. Yes, you will need a referral to a new PM dr. Rarely will they ever see one without a referral. You might try getting your PM dr make a referral to one if she knows of one where you are moving to. Otherwise, its find a new PCP ASAP and getting referred all over again.

I am sorry to hear you have been struggling with health issues. Its just no fun and sure not fair. I do know of the new infusion drug for osteoporosis. My PCP discussed this with me. For now we are having me use the the medication that is a nose spray. Better than popping another pill for sure. Its a tough disease all in itself.

I have been sitting way too long, time for me to get my legs elevated one more time. Wanted to pop on and pass on some info to you.

Thank you so much for the reply.  This is good to know.  I think I will first start with my PM Specialist then will move forward from there.  She is a wonderful doctor, and I did find out today that many doctors will give you enough to last at least a couple months. I have pretty much lined up all eight of my specialists for Illinois.  My Rheumi doctor is very special to me and very compassionate, and will even refill my meds from him for the first couple of months I am in Illinois if need be.  Thank you so much.  I will start my research once again for PMS in my new home so to speak.  

Of Course I will continue to get online in the forum.  I really need to remember to get into the Koffee Klatch.  Or Chat night.  I get fog brain so much of the time.

I am glad thatyou have an excellent PM doc, but Illinois also has some excellent ones, I live in east central illinois and I have an OUTSTANDING PM Doctor! I guess there are good ones and bad ones where ever you go. At one time I was on Vicodin and Vicoprofen and I was switched over to Oxycontin, what a difference, I only had to take pain meds twice a day instead of every few hours, and the pain relief was so much better. Now I take it every 8 hours and for the most part I get realy good pain relief!

Anyway Good Luck on your move and getting all your new Doctors, I know that can be some what of a challenge and a transition!

I seen some one beat me to the punch of the suggestion about talking with your current pain spec about making a referral to one near where you are going to be moving to.

Seems to be a small world. I, like White Beard, live in IL and in East Central IL at that.

One thing I would suggest is for you to get a copy of your medical records from all your doctors and take them with you so you will not run the risk of being held in limbo waiting for them to be officially transferred.

I'm too am getting ready for a cross country move here soon. When I asked my PM about finding another one he actually suggested using something like Chronic Pain Assoc website or any of the other major sites like that to find a new PM in my new area, and then while I'm still here - that he would send my file over there and refer me directly. That way I didn't have to mess around with finding a new PCP to be able to get a referral. Just an idea since I don't know if your current PM is willing to be that proactive.

Grandma, do you have to go to an in-network doctor for insurance reasons. If so, I'd check their website for PM doctors in your future area. That will narrow down your choices then you can start checking out there references from there. You can also start now writing permission slips to your present doctors before you move so they can transfer your files to your new doctor/doctors. Good Luck with the move, it can be quite stressful.

Wow.  So many Illinoisans!  That is wonderful although I am not particularly anticipating the ice, snow and wind that goes with it. Especially living in Virginia on the waterfront (5 minutes away) I will be residing about 90 miles from the  Southern Missouri/Illinois border.  You have good ideas, and I am going to utilize those ideas into my visit with my PM Spec. on the 2nd.  The Pain management was a big issue and was making me stressed beyond belief.  Especially with possible stress fractures in my pelvis. My Rheumi wants me to get an arthritis doctor as soon as I possibly can to do another scan on my bones.  I broke 5 ribs last fall just falling on carpet.

WhiteBeard I see you post a lot on the forum with good advice to many, and so does everybody else give out so much support here on this forum. This is so great.  To Piercings: I wish you the best in finding good doctors and a very compassionate PM Spec. when you finally reach your destination.  And thank you bsjaguar, and Jim 1969 for your input as well.  These things certainly give me a boost, and for those just cruising the forum for info they need. 

I am going to stay with the forum when I get to Illinois.  brrrrr I just might not be as warm in the winter. LOL
