Well, I am still in a lot of pain (story of my/our life eh?) and I still have another 3 epidurals to look forward to (after the botched procedure last week) BUT the neurologist has some things he wants to check and the PM doc still wants to do the epidurals on the right side so I am hopeful there.

However, the main reason I am almost jumping for joy right now is the fact that I was able to talk my PM out of the Fentanyl patches. He was originally going into conversations about headache medications that would help the side effects of the Fentanyl (mostly headaches) but I was explaining to him that the Fentanyl didn't work well on the pain (usually a 7 to an 8) no matter what and had too many side effects. So he eventually got around to putting me back on Oxycontin and Vicodin (breakthrough) for my pain!!! I am SO happy now. These were the only medications that I tolerated and that worked well at all! FINALLY!

Some of you that have been following me on here know that this has been a very long time coming! I foresee sleeping well tonight for the first time in a long, long time.

P.S. - He took me off the Baclofen that gives me nightmares and makes me moan and groan in my sleep... My wife will be happy that she isn't having to sleep on the couch sometimes too! Wow, I don't remember putting this many explanation marks in a post before!

Hi Skrape, wow so glad to hear your good news. If these drs would just slow down once in a while to hear what we are saying they would probably be surprised,lol. Take care.

Skrape, Indeed good news. We take it in any way we can. I know that your struggle has been long, difficult and very frustrating. Even though this is not the BIG CURE that we hoped for at one time, it is enough to bring semblence of hope. I hope you your wife have a good night sleep. Maybe I can trade you some meds, the baclofen sounds like it would give me a break from the sleeplessness and entertain the family as well. Just Kidding of course, my family finds me intertaining regardless of what meds I am on. Hope your day tomorrow is as good as today.

Skrape, so thrilled for you, yeah for a listening doctor!!! They are a rare bird indeed.... lets hope you have a great nights sleep with no headaches. Does it take long for the fentenyl to get out of your system? Best wishes, golitho

From experience, the Fentanyl is out of my system, as far as effectiveness goes, after a matter of hours after removing the patch. Fentanyl is detectable in urine for 5 to 7 days (drug test) but is not providing any relief at that point.

So far this evening I am hurting pretty bad, actually more so than usual. BUT I did drive for over 4 hours today and went through a lot at the clinic. I was also sitting in unfamiliar chairs all day long. I do hope that sleep will come quick and be refreshing. I have been stuck w/these patches for so long, I don't think it has really set in yet that I am done w/them. I haven't been able to take a long shower for 9 months. I have a wrap over my IV leader right now but tomorrow when that comes off, I will be taking a shower until the hot runs out and then probably for quite a while in the cold too!!!

I will let you guys know how the transition back from the Fentanyl to the Oxycontin goes. Going the opposite way was an ordeal... Thanks for all the congratulations and the support. I am glad to finally have GOOD news to share for a change. Coming from me, good news posts are few and far between...

The transition is a little rough. I am keeping my eye on the prize; never having to deal w/the patches again. I don't think you can transition off of 100mcgs Fentanyl to anything very easily unless it is a crazy high dose that no one in their right mind would Rx you. Well, I don't think this guy was in his right mind Rx'ing me that 100mcgs jump (from 100 to 200 overnight) at any rate...

But I thank you very much. Bottom line is I have had much, much worse and the 9 months of hell I endured is enough incentive to keep complaining to a minimum!

I'm so glad he finally listened to you and put you back on proven medication treatment plan. Doctors I believe don't realize that change in meds for a CPer is so impacting physically and mentally
