Hi Palady,

I have been sitting here wracking my poor old brain trying to remember which PPI you take lol? I am on Prevacid 30mg twice a day. I think I have probably been on every one of them at some time in my life. All I know is I have been on these things for years. I was on Nexium but my gi took me off of it, seems its notorious for causing diarhea in peeps, thats one problem I don't need to add to lol.

I am remembering something with you about having a three hour window of not being able to eat for three hours after taking it, is that right? Which one is it you are on? Like I said, I have been on all of them and never had this 3 hour window thing. I wonder if this is the drs preference because none of the print-outs ever said to wait 3 hrs to eat. A few of them listed certain medications to avoid taking right after taking the pill, some recommended you wait 30 minutes.

Our rain has finally stopped after a week or more of straight rain. But, I had a weather bulletine pop up for potential flooding, great. I had hopes of mowing my back yard but that was out for the morning time. I am getting ready to go lay down. Nausea seems to be around alot with this pump, Zofran time and a small nap should fix it.

I was on prevacid for a couple of months, during my last futile attempt to use NSAIDs.

It was very useful for relieving the stomach pain, but not the nausea. The label on the pharmacy bottle said to take it 30 minutes to an hour before eating.

The reason for this is, it works better when one takes it that amount of time before eating as it is completely absorbed into your system by the time you eat, so it does what it's supposed to do. If you eat before that, it's no big deal, it just might not work as well. Thirty minutes really isn't all that long, after all.

Thanks Chris, but none of this is on my bottle or the printout. I went to drugs,com nothing mentioned there either, Must be a drs thing.

While I was working at the pharmacy, every single PPI prescription said take 30-60mins before food. It's not serious if you don't. I think doctors are really just trying to help when they give the 30-60 minute window of not eating.

Remember I don't just take the nexium for GERD - I have Barrett's esophagus with mild dysplasia. The next step is basically esophageal cancer. So I'm on the maximum dose of nexium - 40mg / twice day. The instructions on the bottle are not to eat for at least 1 hour after taking it. You've got to give it time to dissolve so it can be protective. The 3 hours is about not eating before bedtime, because nighttime regurgitation is very common with Barrett's. So that's not about the nexium, but about going to bed on a relatively empty stomach.
