Skrape,
I absolutely can relate. Last year for the first time I had to apply for the low income energy assistance program. I still had the remnants of my business but was still eligible. You may want to see if you are. I didn't get much - $300, which barely covered a couple of months here in PA in winter (you know, being in Michigan!), but I'll take anything at this point.
Pride? What's that?

p.s. I guess I have to very carefully add (since we can't discuss politics on the forum, which is probably a good idea!) that no matter what, our health care is already limited and rationed by insurance companies and employers and that's not going to change, regardless of kind of plan comes out. Since I worked in health care (and had my pay check and reimbursement rates defined by the insurance companies) I can see both sides of the picture. But for the first time in my life I have been without insurance since my COBRA ended (from a pt time job I got laid off from) in June. I now am trying to get a low cost policy for low income individuals, since I qualify, but the benefits are skimpy. It's very scary not having decent health care and having increasing health problems, that's for sure!
