She's almost 8 weeks old now and if you didn't know it, you'd never guess she had such a rough start to life! She's the very definition of hell on wheels! LOL!
She decided she was going to take on one of my dogs the other day. It would have made sense to start small and work her way up, but nooooo.. she decides that her little 2lb self is going to boss around the 130lb dog... y'know, the dog who has TOENAILS that are bigger than her!
Luckily that really big dog is also very laid back and just kind of laughed at her.
I can die happy knowing if I've brought nothing else to your life, I've introduced you to mouscicles.
It's funny that you asked about
the mouscicles. I don't normally offer mice or anything with a lot of bone until my babies have some of their adult teeth, which usually 4-6 months old. Until then, I usually put everything through the meat grinder before I give it to them. Over the weekend, I had passed out some whole mouscicles to the big kids and I hadn't put Nikki to bed. Before I knew what happened, Nikki stole Tick-tock's mouse and ran under the dresser with it! Tick-tock followed her and after that, all I heard for the next half hour was a lot of little grunts and growls from her. Tick-tock must have decided to teach her about
mouscicles rather than smack her and take his mousie back, because when they came finally out, she obviously had her fill!
I love to watch Nikki grow and learn, and to know that we won the battle. She made it through and at this point, I have no reason to think she won't have a long, healthy, and perfectly normal life - within the limits of our "normal." But, I'm also fighting a lot of sadness. I had a litter of 5 newborns come in Friday night and none of them made it.
I think the part that makes me more sad than anything else is knowing that it was totally preventable and absolutely senseless. Their original family went to the pet store a few months ago, paid $1500 for a Snowshoe Siamese to be their 3-year-old's birthday present, but couldn't be bothered to spend another $100 to get her spayed. Then, they didn't educate themselves enough to know that female cats can get pregnant as young as 4 months old and let her roam around outside. So, last Thursday evening, their 7 month old
kitten gave birth to 5 babies. Then they left them
all outside overnight, with our temps dropping into the 30's. And finally, last Friday morning they took the kittens to my vet's office, without the Mom, and asked the vet to euthanize the kittens because they didn't want them.
It's just wrong. Those kittens should have grown up strong and learned about
mouscicles and chased feathers and picked on dogs and had homes of their very own, with people that loved them. I did everything I could for them, but in the end they all died in my hands, one by one, and all I could do was hold them and hope that they'd at least know that
someone loved them and will remember them, even though they were here for such a short time.
You're probably sorry you asked now.. eh?
