Late this past Sunday night, out of nowhere, I became sick. Up until I had to race to the bathroom to kneel before the altar I was feeling fine. Once done in there I came down with the shakes and shivers which lasted for hours and had a temp of 103 which pretty much lasted until late Weds afternoon at which point I started feeling better.

Weds night I decided I felt strong enough to take a shower and as I was removing my socks I notice a HUGE blister on the side of my big toe. As I am examining it the things pops, and well lets just say it left no doubt it was majorly infected. Now how or why I ended up with a blister there let alone it getting infected as bad as it did is beyond me.

Went to the doctor today and heard the clinical term "awful" 3 times. The PA I saw today was concerned enough to go and get an MD to look it over and he was concerned enough to order X-rays and to refer to me a podiatrist.


The bright point of the week is that my PCP finally got back with me over the insurance denying the Nucynta so she wrote me a script for Dilaudid, 2 mg tablets, 1 every 8 hours as needed. They help my resting pain for about 3 hours but my active pain they dont touch. I have a followup appointment with the PCP in regards to my foot on Monday and am going to talk to her about it, but I have a hunch she is going to want to wait until after my epidural next Thursday before doing any adjustments.

Oh I have not smoked since Saturday night. 5 days and counting.

Hi Jim:

I'm so glad you're feeling better from whatever made you so sick, but I'm sorry about the infection on your foot. I noticed you are a diabetic (me too), does the doctor think it may be related to that?

I hope that the doctor is just erring on the side of caution, the the podiatrist will say it is nothing to worry about.

I don't know what it is about dilaudid in pill form, it works great for some people, but it does absolutely nothing for me, and I have heard the same thing from others. I hope that she will give you something else.

Sorry to hear about your being so ill. I am glad that you are feeling better now, but do be careful to keep an eye on that blister and the infection. Being diabetic can cause it to become a huge infection in no time, and especially because it is on your foot.
Did the doctor give you any antibiotics until you can get in to see the podiatrist?
Glad that you are getting some relief from the pain, but hope that your doctor will work with you on dealing with the moving around pain too.
It's hard to sit around, doing nothing all of the time. Hang in there and best of luck to you,

Like everyone else I'm sorry to hear about the infection and not feeling well. It sounded in part like the flu, although I don't know how that relates to the infection in your foot. I also hope they gave you an antibiotic.

It seems like so many of us are developing more and more illnesses on top of what we already have. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but there's a lot going on medically with so many of us!

Anyway, I do hope they can cure that infection!

Hi Jim,
Hope your foot is getting better, wasn't it really sore or were you too sick to notice it specifically or is it numb? Lots of questions, I hate vomitting bugs the most. Some truely horrible memories associated with them and my children...don't want to go there.
I hope your PCP gets your meds sorted and your pain more manageable, best wishes, golitho

Oh Jim, sure hope things gets better fast. Not surprised about the Dilaudid at all, I Watch that foot & take care.had the same thing for BT pain from my old PM dr. I ended up declining scripts of it, I was wasting money buying it. New PM dr said she did not know it came in a such a low dose. She changed the script from 2mg to 4mg 1-2 tablets four timesa day, what a difference that made in the pain. She said Tylenol was probably more effective than the 2mg. After all ER gives 10mg in a shot, she pointed that out to me. Watch that foot.

Hey Jim, Thats great about the smoking, Your the Man!! Keep it up Brother!! Sorry to hear you have been so sick! It sounded like the flue??? Did they say it was?? That foot thing sounds crazy, did you feel it before you saw it? Maybe the pain meds and the sickness masked the foot pain, thats happened to me before!

I'm glad to see that you are seeing a podiatrist about the blister on your toe. Being diabetic any sore on the foot is nothing to mess with.

Do you see a pain management doctor for your pain issues? You stated that your PCP prescribed the pain meds and a PCP may be leary of prescribing a strong enough does to help with your pain issues. Let us know how the epidural turns out and what the Podiatrist has to say about your foot.

Jim,
was nice to hear from you, but so very sorry your foot has an infection..You might need to reschedule your injections cause it states they won't do them if you have an infection as a precaution, good luck at the foot doctor's and I hope he/she can help and get that infection under control, keep us posted...
will keep you in my thoughts and prayers...
