SSD Phsych evaluation, Yep I'm a Loonie~Tune!!

Greetings and Salutaions my Dear Family!
Well I had an apt. w/ a shrink for my SS Disability claim yesterday at 3:00pm! As you may have notice, I haven't posted in a couple days> reason being I destroyed my lower back last week and really did it in over the weekend! It's not easy getting around so I've been forced to take it easy for a change!



Using a cain just like my hero> {F.J.} I hobbled into Dr. Billy Jean's office which was aprox. 30 miles from my home. She seemed very nice and was very polite but very serious which is to be expected I guess. First she took inventory of all my medications which I had in one of those travelling toiletry bags guys use. It was totally filled up w/ my thyroid, 2 x B/P, stomac, head ache, 2 x pain, 2 x muscle relaxers, estrogen levelers, injectable testosterone, coated baby asperin, fish oil, laxatives & suppositories, prescription creams & ointments and of course>> AntiDepression meds! How did I know she would look up at me (over her glasses) when she came to the Oxicodone & methadone) but only for a second!!



She then explained how S.S. contracted her to look into my claim of ongoing depression and she would be asking me varrious questions to determine if I was or am depressed. Okey~Dokey anything you say Doc Billy Jean!! Q-When did it start? A-When my Father was diognossed w/ cancer> I was in college. Q-When did you first start taking meds for it? A-When Prozac 1st came on the market! And so fourth and so on for about 45 min.



I only broke down and cried once! A new record for me with shrinks! She asked me what do you do that makes you happy, if anything? When I answerwed, the thing that makes me the most happy is making my wife happy, thats what I live for!!! And the floodgates opened! She asked is that the only thing and I told her that hearing from my two sons in the Navy and seeing and spending as much time w/ them as I can was a close second place and I smiled as she handed me a tissue.



Of course she had to ask me about what was going on w/ my wife and I told her the whole story from being married for 28 years only once for both of us, on to prostate cancer to hypogonadizm which caused a near suiside then on to living apart for a year and the depression it caused then seeing a marrage councellor!



I actually think she spent more time w/ me than usual because she thought I was an interesting case! I say this because she told me that if I ever needed to talk to someone, to call her!! But then again, maybe she just needs the $$$???



All in all I think it went pretty well for the good guys! She told me that she believed me 100% and explained that SSD will have her report within a week. I told her I was hurting for $$$ so I think thats why she mentioned how soon they would get her report!



Maybe it's wishfull thinking on my part and I'm just setting myself up for a big letdown but everything seems to be going so good w/ this SSD thing so far!!! I still haven't heard back from them about the Xrays I was supposed to have last week at my physicall examination yet. That was when I was 10lbs. over the weight limit for their xray machine!!



So, if anyone has any comments, helpful suggestions or tips for me, PLEASE lay them on me!! Do Y'all think I'm getting my hopes up too high? I've heard that they shoot down almost everyone on their first try!!! "Yu Gotz to Hep me! Lord knows I kaint do it by my Seff"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Pete,

Thanks for another great post.  You did good at your psych eval!  Hopefully it will pay of quickly!!  Take care of that back. 

    Pete....I always enjoy reading your post. I won't be much help with suggestions, but you seem like a man with a great character. You are simply a wonderful person in my books! Im sure you will get plenty of quality replies here soon. Hang in there, and I would say your on the right tract, and it always helps staying positive about it all. Keep us posted on your progress with all this, and I can't wait to read your next posting.

Pete, you dissapointed me. I told you to make sure you mentioned your imaginary friend to her. I can look her up and see if she could use a second opinion. Just kidding buddy. Watch the cane jokes I do have feelings. I packed them away somewhere but I do have them. I have been thinking about you. I am having 16 yards of dirt delivered tomorrow, do you want to come over and help wheel it to the back yard? Keep taking it easy, and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Blessings!

I do wish you luck and hope it gets approved the first time for you, I know when I first applied, the thing that worked against me was 1. my age and 2. my training and back ground, in the end it was approved by the Judge, SS looks at it that just because you can't work in one job, maybe you can work in some other job, if you have the training an knowledge! Which is fine if you can! But if you can't then it is a problem! The best thing of course is to be honest and truthful and let the facts speak for themselves! It might or might not take awhile but if you are rejected the first time ( like PALady said don't take it personally!)
