Fentynel Patches

I know from experience (and so did my grandmother) that fentanyl patches are among the best painmeds when undergoing chemo and/or ratiation therapy (or nukie nukie as we call it in the family). The dose might need some adjusting, hat's something you have to discuss with your docs. The drawbacks outway the advantages, especially in chem/rad situations. Sometimes the patches don't last 72 hours. We js-us had a study done about that to determine the exact cause. It usually is a question of having too dry a skin (absorption is too fast) or too oily a skin (absorpion is stopped after a couple of days because the oily substances excreted by your skin block the remainder of the fentanyl in the patch). The best way to proceed is to clean the skinn with a wet cloth (no soap or anything else), then dry it of gently (don't rub) with a towel. Wait a couple of minutes (5 minutes will do) and put on the patch.

You gonna be fine. Modern radiation therapy can do wonders.

Screaming Eagle,thank you for asking about me.Yes i knew pm was gonna change meds.I didnt know til last minute about fentynel patches.He took me off oxycodone.The oxycodone just helped me for four hours.He had me on it three times a day 30 mg.If he would have just raised the dose i would have been fine til i went to oncolagist.My spelling isnt that great.Oh wish you well wv.girl.

There is a wide variety of fentanyl patch doses. Patients usually wear the patches between 48 - 73 hours. The sucker are Fentanyl - the are for acute instant pain relief, as the are absorbed in your mounth. They do contain sugar and many patients fail to immediately brush their teeth and end up with dental cavities. All of the oral fentanyl formations are very very expensive - around $100 per dose. Make sure you do have an insurance issue. I was covered and for 4 per day it ran $5,000 per month at the 800 mg dose.

I was in a hurry the last time I posted to you; sorry if it seemed like a "rushed" reply...

I'm sorry for all the pain issues you are going through... I really, really hope you find some pain control with the fentanyl patches and w/ the fentanyl lollipop.

For me, personally, nothing has ever helped w/ pain like fentanyl. Unfortunately, I can't wear the patches. But I do use the fentanyl lollipop. At one point, I was using the 1200mcgs, 3x a day. Right now, I use 1 per day.

The teeth thing with the lollipop is a very true thing... something I learned the hard way. I'm basically having to have half of my teeth "redone"...either via root canals and some pulled/put in dental implants. Try to rotate the places in your mouth that you put it to dissolve. In addition, try to brush after you use them.

It sounds like you are going through a lot... I really do hope the fentanyl works for your pain issues. Fentanyl can also be put in the pain pump, although it is not as frequently used as morphine and dilaudid.

If your dr is not listening to any of your input then it is time to kick him to the curb and find someone else. Just don't do this till you have it confirmed a new dr is willing to take you with the pump. Many drs will not take a pump patient unlss they are the ones that recommended the pump be put in. Thats one of the things the drs do not tell us pump patients in the very beginning. I found this out the hard way. So tread lightly here till you know for certain a new dr is taking you pump & all.
