Just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia

I'm not going to post a whole lot, just yet, since I don't want my first post here to be overwhelming & also most likely repetetive. I know that happens alot on most message boards, folks come in with the same questions over & over again before doing a search of the forums.

I came accross this particular forum while googling Fibromyalgia & Cymbalta.

So, I just wanted to pop in here & say hello, I was just diagnosed, finally, today with Fibromyalgia & was prescribed Cymbalta. I experienced quite a bit of dizziness with my first dose, but rather than sit down & feel dizzy I got up & walked around the mall, had hubby drive me around town, etc... for a good couple of hours. So long as I was moving the dizziness wasn't so bad. I'm sitting down now & doing fine, checking out this forum.

So, hello, and if you have any threads in particular you think I should look at please let me know. :)

Hi Melissa,

Just wanted to say welcome as well as to let you know that Healing Well does have a forum dedicated to fibro. Not saying you are not welcome to post here in the Chronic Pain just that you might find better information as well as additional support there as well.

To find it just click on the diseases and conditions near the top of the page and then scroll down a bit.

Anyway welcome and hope the Cymbalta helps.



BTW: I don't know what dose you were started on, but my wife who also has fibro was started on 60 mg and had a lot of problems with side effects. Since I also take it for diabetic nerve pain I got her to talk to her doctor about cutting her back to 30 mg per day for a week or so and then upping it back to 30. Doing that made the side effects she had when she started to take it disappear by 99% and by the time she upped to 60 they were gone and she had no problems with the increase, and yes it does help her.

My Dr. started me on 30 for 7 days, and then will step me up to 60. I saw the forum for Fibro, and have been reading there too. I also have TMJ disorder, have had it for almost 10 years, and have had knee pain since birth, so I'll probably be a visitor of both forums since I've had chronic pain my whole life. I don't know what it's like to be without pain.

ETA : I'm 33 years old. I feel like I've never been young, really, except for stupid decision making. LOL

     Good morning. My name is Dani. It is a pleasure to meet you. I am very glad you found Healing Well Community. I am sorry you have to deal with daily chronic pain. Though I do not have Fibromyalsia myself, it is my understanding it is very painful. I am very sorry you have to endure though it. But, I hope that the new medicine brings you relief once it is finally at the right levels.

 

     I wont chat endlessly. Just know that we are glad to you came to Healing Well and we hope to get to know you better as time goes by.

     Hello Melissa!...and welcome to the CP forum! You will love it here! I joined back in Oct of last year....and believe this is the best place on the web for people who suffer from Chronic Pain. Keep posting and shareing with us, and enjoy the site.

Michael, thank you for the encouragement. It does look like a very nice site. I just woke up. (3rd shift worker, so even on my days off I sleep late) I'm gonna poke around the board some more & maybe post over at the Fibro forum too tonight. Hubby's picking up dinner, which I really don't feel like eating, but know I need to eat. After that I might try to do some light cardio & stretching, just to move around, it seems to help the nausea from the meds.
So, anyway, I do think I'll enjoy this site.

Welcome to HW! Sorry that I'm a bit late to join the welcoming party, but I've been dealing with my mother in the hospital, so I haven't had much time to post. I'm sorry that you had to join us because of pain, but I'm so glad that you found us. As others have said, this is a wonderful, compassionate, caring group. I really can't say enough good things about my CP family here! They've changed my life & I hope they will yours too! Welcome aboard!
