Screaming Eagle, Hope your doing okay

Hello Chartreux! I just walked into the door. It went fine, and was not too bad, but they did have to increase the sedation on me. I'm pretty sore, and hit the bed as soon as I walked in the door. I think that some rest is needed, and I will try to reply to some of the post that I have missed. Thank you all for your concern, and I will update later, and probably tomorrow. Has anyone heard from Hydrangea, I'm sure I did not get her name spelled right, but you all know who I am talking about. Good night, and I will see you tomorrow.

Glad to hear that things went well... but sorry that you are so sore. Yep, I think some good rest is definitely in order, my friend!! Rest first... then update us when you are feeling better :) But take care of yourself, ok?

I'm glad you survived it well! My hunch is they may have tested in reality two disks - the disk between L4-L5, and between L5-S1. The disks are the material between the vertebrae. This is why I suggested that you meet with your surgeon again after all the tests are complete, so you will know what they show, and what your options are. I have never heard of a triple level fusion being done all at the same time, but I could be wrong. I had a double fusion, at those exact levels, so I'm fused from L4 to S1, which meant removing two disks.

It seems like these disks are so often the culprits when it comes to lower back problems, although the lumbar spine only goes from L1-L5, so I guess those lower disks get all the pressure from sitting, bending, lifting, etc.

I hope the bed has softened up for you. I found that my body heat did that, even though sometimes the bed is cold when you initially get it. It doesn't take very long to warm up. I used to use an electric blanket but haven't needed one since the tempurpedic even on the coldest nights - tho' I do use my down comforter.

   PaLady, Bless your Heart! You are so right, and I appreciate you trying to educate all of us on this. Now it makes sence of what your saying, as the Dr. did mention this, but I had a hard time understanding.

I have had a hard time understanding all of this, and I will blame some of it on the pain meds, and the rest on my stupidity.

I do have a friend that just had five of them done all on a row, at the same time. The poor guy will be back to work after being off 9 weeks, but won't be able to do anything at all.

You should see me today! I look like I'm 100yrs old and it is so tender. One little false move, and down to my knees I go! :(

Has anybody heard from Hydrangae today? I'm a wishing the best for her with all my heart.

Thank You, each and everyone of you for asking about me! Forgive me if I have not mentioned you by name, but right now I'm just struggling to get this on the tube. It was back to work for me today, and my boss just told me to sit in a chair and help the operator with any questions he may have, about running the machine, that I normally run.

   Stray, that would make sence. I was just hoping that someone would post something in her behalf. I'm having a hard time trying to stay on top all the news here, as I just feel awful right now.

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv (LOL), but before my surgery I did a lot of research on websites that doctors had given to me, and other credible sites, so I could make sense of what was going on with my spine. Back surgery scared the heck out of me.

I hope it's ok to post this site (if not a mod. can delete it, that's ok), but the one I found most useful to me was www.spineuniverse.com. One of the interventional radiologists (matter of fact the one who did my discogram) gave me the site, and it really covers about anything and everything about the spine at least I could think of. All the treatments we all talk about here. But in a way that we as patients can understand. And there are lots of diagrams that seemed to make sense to me. Also, my neurosurgeon showed me my MRI's at the appointment just before my surgery. He had them up on the computer screen and had me sit next to him and he explained it all to me, including the discogram results. I think the spine universe site is supported a lot by Cleveland Clinic, as I used to see their doctors referenced a lot, but I haven't been to the site in awhile. Anyway, it may help you out a bit, and then you could see if you have any more questions for your doc.

Try to take it easy today. A little ice on the injection sites probably wouldn't hurt.

p.s.Not sure how long hydrangea will be in the hospital, but I was in for 6 days. My surgery was supposed to take 3 hrs; it took 6. I was supposed to be discharged in 2-3 days. Everything was doubled.
