need some ideas and help for femoral nerve pain managment

I have been fighting this pain for a little over 6 years now. It started overseas in Iraq while I was in the army. The pain is in my scrotum and runs down the inside of my thigh to about the middle of my calf. I have had my left testicle removed with no relief of pain. I have had numerous nerve blocks with relief lasting no longer than 5 to 10 min. I have been on extremely high doses of nurotin,lyrica,and numerous other anti-inflamitories. I have also been on numerous pain killers to include just being placed on morphine @ 60mg with no relief. Can anyone help me think of another avenue to approach this pain. It stays constint throughout the day without relief someone please help.

Dear cantstopthepain Iam so sorry you are enduring such an ordeal , its really hard to hear someone having such a tough time .I'm sorry I happen to be enduring a different type of ordeal so I can't directly advise you on any kind of pain help ;But I wanted you to know your very welcome to the family here , it helps to write about whatt your feeling and commiserate with others who also suffer through pain . So please feel free to write in and I feel sure someone here can advise you as to something to try , have you tried Pain Management ? Also having a Pain Therapist can help you deal witth the situation as well feel more calm .Medidtation is wonderful towards calming oneself down .Knowing pain may be coming can be stressful .Best of luck to you my friend , you are in my prayers .

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Yes I have tried the pain management places for about a year with know rdlief so I ended up going back to square one with going back to my family doc. He has been trying some new things without any resolve. Maybe soon I can find the right combinations of things to atleast ease the pain. Again thank you for the welcome.

I want to welcome you to the chronic pain forum of Healing Well, although I'm sorry you have reason to be here. This is a good support group, but we're not medical professionals and don't always have answer we wish we did. I have a hunch you probably know that.

I can say that many of us face challenges finding relief from pain, as well as finding the right medical professionals to help. It's a struggle, to say the least. Are you having to use VA resources (I'm assuming you're in the U.S. but that may not necessarily be true)? I just wonder how many options you have for seeking second (or third) opinions.

I wish I could help more, but maybe someone will come along with more ideas!

Yes I'm out of the military now. I've been out for about 5 years now. I've mainly been seen by civilian docs. Even a couple of times at DUKE pain clinics. They just keep telling me its gonna be a difficult pain to manage and that even a nerve stimulator implant might not work. I'm only 27 and I want that to be the last thing I try, but from the looks of it, it might be the next thing I try. They also tell me this will be a life long struggle. I sure hope not. If I can just ease the pain a little and make my leg quit jumping sparatickly ill be happy. But thanks for your input. Hopefully someone will come up with something soon

Has anyone discussed the possibility of a SCS - impanted spinal cord stimulator for pain. I have one for neuropathic pain in both of my legs. It does not totally eliminated the need for oral narcotics, but it does dull the pain and change the sensations that I feel. These are usually best managed by and experienced pain management specialist. It was just a pasting thought.

I have chronic nerve pain too. I sure hope you find relief soon, especially being so young. I know how bad nerve pain is.. Cymbalta is the only thing that's helped me, and it just reduces it to a more tolerable level. I too have tried neurontin, lyrica, savella, nerve blocks with no help. Have you tried rhizotomy, where they burn the nerves? It may work better for you since you have more localized pain. Mine is more widespread so it's been harder to find the exact nerves. I wish you the best.

Well they have told me since its the femoral nerve that they could not kill it or burn it because it would effect the movement of my leg. That's why my leg jumps. And moves sporadically
