Hello everyone,

  I havent been on here in quite awhile, but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice on healing well after a tonsilectomy? Im 28 and getting them out this Wednesday. The main thing Im worried about is taking my regular base pain meds plus now more breakthru pain meds on a pretty empty stomach. Any suggestions on how to coat my stomach to take all my meds? Thanks everyone....

I had mine out at 32 and I wasn't able to swallow anything except liquids for about 10 days. Hope all goes well. Oh, in case they didn't tell you, about day 8 you probably will get some nasty ear pain for a day or 2.

Ask for liquid pain medication. That is SO important. Also, buy plenty of pudding packs. When my husband had his tonsils out, I bought a bunch of small Dixie cups and several boxes of Jello. I made them all and stuck them in the fridge before we left for the hospital. I didn't have to worry about it when we got home. Also, get some soup (vegetarian vegetable works well for this), prepare it, and then run it through a blender. Let it cool to just warm and drink it (you don't want to drink it hot- it will hurt.)

I had my tonsils out at 30 and I lived on liquids and soft things for about 2 weeks as well as living on liquid narcotics. It was rough but very happy I had it done. Good luck with the surgery and I hope you heal fast.

Oh Boy!!!  I had mine out at 25 and I wanted to die....it hurt so freaking bad....but it gets better....just don't try to eat when it's numb because it will hurt later....good luck.
