Knee bursitis?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this so I thought I would start here.  Has anyone here ever had knee bursitis?  If so, can you please tell me your symptoms and what was done for it?  I am thinking I have bursitis but it's the bursae on the sides of my kneecaps that are swollen - it looks like I have golf balls on both sides of my kneecaps.  My knees tend to hurt a lot when it gets swollen.  It's never red or anything like that, just like it's gathering fluid.

I haven't had it in my knees before..but last year..I had a bout of it in my hips for around 6 months..it was just awful tryint to sleep comfortably! It certainly feels terrible so I am sorry that you are hurting:(

I did two rounds (3 months apart) of steroid injections, directly into the area, as well as took anti-inflammatories for those 6 months and that seemed to make it much better...I have since learned exercises for my hips to help prevent it from coming back and so far so good!

I hope that your Dr. can help you relieve this pain from it...I've been thinking about the pain you had with your tailbone...did you find a good treatment for that?

Thanks for replying Snowbunny (I like that name btw!). It wasn't actually my tailbone but my sacroiilitis acting up. It's much better now..........well until it acts up again! :)

Is your knee stiff or does it make clicking noise? When I had a torn meniscus my knee swelled on either side but would also make noises and at times it would lock up on me. I think it may be time to see your doctor. I've also had to have fluid drained from my knee since my surgery. There are also meniscus on both sides of the knee. Let us know what you find out!

I would agree with Jag that seeing a doc - a good knee specialist (orthopedist) - is probably best. So much can go wrong with our knees! And there are a lot of different treatments, so you want an accurate diagnosis first, and then an expert to tell you your options.

My knees get stiff but they don't click or grind. They sort of ache and I have been to the doc so many times in the past for my knees but she can never find anything wrong with them. I chalked it up to my Ulcerative Colitis and the aches and pains having it entails. But the golf ball swelling just started last summer and they will puff up and then go down on their own or sometimes I use ice. So maybe I will make yet another appointment with my primary and see if she will refer me out to an ortho.

I think I will pass on the bell pepper though. I have to be careful what I take and/or eat due to my Uc. I'm in remission with it right now and I plan on keeping it that way! But thank you for the suggestion Austin :)
