Cant sleep due to pain

Hi Kim. I hope that you fell asleep. I understand not being able to sleep because of pain. It's awful! Does your doc know that your medication is sometimes not effective?

I am glad that you finally got some sleep. I know how horrible and frustrating it is when you can't sleep because of the pain. I haven't slept in my own bed for 2 1/2 years now. I'm either on the couch, in the spare bedroom or in my recliner, depending on how bad the pain is. All I can say hun is don't let the pain catch up with you before you take your medicine or you will play catch up with the pain.

Thanks Willow for your advice but I have tried amitriptyline and it didnt help my sleep problems . I think the reason my sleep meds didnt work cause when I sleep on my right side I have bad incision pain . I cant sleep on any other way or I dont fall asleep. I m just glad I received 5 hrs of sleep last night. I hope you have a lpd .

Thank you also scarred . I have been dealing with chronic insomnia for almost 2 years. I cant sleep in the bed eithier I sleep on the couch . I dont know if you remember me or not I use to go by kara487. I was away from the boards for awhile and couldnt remember my password so i am using this name now.

Hello Kimber! I too am still suffering from the surgery pain. It is taking forever! I asked a friend of mine about it, and he told me that it may take me up to 7 or 8 months or me to get over it. My scar is pretty big, and I guess maybe they could have cut through several nerves, but I'm not for sure. It will get better. My back seems to be coming along nicely, and that is important to me.

Sorry you're in pain & not sleeping. Just wanted to share with you that I had a similar issue for a while. As it turned out, some narcotics & allergy meds can cause wakefulness and/or insomnia if taken too close together (besides the fact that narcotics on their own can cause or worsen insomnia). Please don't change anything without consulting your prescribing doctor, but if it continues, maybe they can have you separate your doses of benadryl & zyrtec farther apart from your doses of Lortab as bedtime approaches. I need to take my allergy meds 2 hours prior to taking my pain meds (when I was on Lunesta, I took that at the same time as my pain meds), or else I don't fall asleep until the middle of the night & then only after taking additional meds. As an added bonus, my pain meds give me more relief when I space them farther apart from my allergy meds. :)
