I have had it with doctors

2 weeks ago I overslept and missed an appointment with a pain nurse that works at the clinic my PCP is part of. As soon as I got up and realized I screwed up I called the office to try to reschedule and also to confirm some other appointments I new were coming up soon at the clinic with other providers (diabetes nurse and a dietitian as I had been thinking of going on the insulin pump and when I had the appointments made I was never given an appointment sheet per office policy). I was told by whoever answered the phone they were too busy to deal with that right now and they would call back ASAP. This was on a Thursday. The following Monday I still had not heard back so I called again. Once again they were too busy. On Weds I called again and they were still too busy so I said hell with it.

A few days ago I emailed in a request for some refills. I had been on 90 mg of Cymbalta for my nueropathy pain and it worked well at that level, but due to insurance issues I had stopped taking it for a few months and my PCP started me over at 30 mg for 2 weeks and then 60 mg for 2 weeks and then I was to return to taking 90 mg. I reminded her of that in my email. Well she called in my Cymbalta to the pharmacy.....60 mg. I never did hear back as I was suppose to, per office policy, that my script had been filled. I only know this because after 3 days I checked my account with my pharmacy and noted I had a prescription waiting to be picked up.

At the same time I requested the Cymbalta I also requested a script for my pain meds. Since the Cymbalta had been sent in, even though it was not what it was suppose to be, I thought maybe the pain med script was ready to so I called the office to make sure. Nope. She refused to fill it because I had missed my appointment and hadn't bothered to reschedule it. I explained to the nurse that I had tried to reschedule that appointment 3 times and was told all 3 times by whoever answered the phone they were too busy and I would be called back and that I have an appointment scheduled on the 20th with the pain nurse. The nurse said she would talk to the doctor and explained what happened and see if she (doctor) would at least write me a script to get me through until the 20th. Once again the doctor refused. I have to make an appointment with either her or the pain nurse before I get anything. So I tired to make an appointment with either one. The earliest I can get in to see either one of them....the 23rd.

Oh and on top of that now she is saying that I have to sign a pain contract. While I have no problem doing that it irks me to no end that this was not brought up and taken care of at my last visit.

Between this and the ordeal I went through a year and a half ago of being dumped by the doctor I had been seeing for over 10 years due to missing appointment as a result of memory problems from a medication I was on I have pretty much had it with the entire profession.

Jim, in all honesty I think they treated you badly and I hope you let the doctor know what all happened
when you see him again. Looks like they are going to make you wait for your meds and that's just not right..

I guess what really has me so fed up with them is that so many of them DO NOT LISTEN.

And my issues with the medical community are not just a result of my CP, but also because of my struggle to control my diabetes. For the first several years after I was dx as diabetic I was in denial and did not take it as seriously as I should have. Yes I took the pills but did not increase my activity levels or really watch my diet very well. Then about 6 years ago I did get serious and I had really good control. No insulin, just diet, excercise and oral meds. Then about 4 years ago I went majorly out of control and went on insulin and even with massive doses of insulin my sugar was still all over the place. No "obvious" rhyme or reason. My PCP at that time (the one who dumped me) couldn't figure it out and set me up with an endo. The endo was too busy calling me and my PCP idiots to listen to anything I had to say about my medical history.

Over the course of 4 years I have spoken with 3 diabetes nurses, 2 endo2, and 2 PCP's, and a nephrologist (some of them were during a visit to the Mayo), about my blood sugar levels, and not one of them could put the pieces together even though all of them knew I was in chronic pain as well as being diabetic. I had to put the pieces together myself through my own research to learn that the CP was messing with my hormone levels and causing havoc and when I brought it up at an office visit the PCP was like "Oh yeah. That will do it" in a tone as if to say...Well duh. You are just now figuring that out. Up until that point it was always more. You need more insulin, you need more control over your diet, you need more exercise.

At this point I wish someone would just give me a license to write my own scripts and to schedule my own lab work and turn me loose. God knows I couldn't screw around and screw things up any more than these over educated idiots that I have been dealing with.

    You know it is always good to hear from you. You always make me laff! Though gosh, I cannot believe you ended up with a doctor that is exactly like the last one!!!!! Did they go through medical school together or what? What is worse is that obviously you dont have the time to switch to yet again ANOTHER new doctor. I have never head of such aggresive behaviour over a missed appointment. Oh no, you know what? Come to think of it, yea. The "new nurse" at my primary cares office last year. I hear she was fired though. Its a long story. So wont bother you with it.

 

    I am so very sorry you are treated with such careless dissreguard. That is just dangerous. I cannot believe you are being treated so badly!!!! I wish there were someway for you to get a new doctor
