So I went to the family doctor today for a med check and to talk about
the kidney stones since no PM doc will take my case with my insurance. The kidney stones are a wait and see thing still, they are talking to a new PM to see about
helping just with meds, since I don't want any more surgery for my adhesions or bowel, and my youngest son is the picture of health. I felt that dread when it came to the medication part, you know where your doc tells you all the ways they may want to change things or what else to try. It was the sinking stomach feeling of dread and as though I want to melt into the chair, just so I dont have to hear that I am not doing a good job with using the break-through meds, blah blah blahhh.....
This was when my CRNP turned to me and asked if I am happy with my level of pain control. It took me a moment because although she is a great practioner, I never expected that. My response was that I would like a little better grip on it, and she asked what I thought would work! I think my jaw hit my lap at this point. Never has a doc asked me what I would like to do with my medications. Asked me what I thought was going on, but they have always dictated take this at this time or when this happens, etc. She listened and tailored the meds to what I thought would work. I see her again in 3 months unless something changes. I left the office feeling wonderful, like I have a say in my pain control! It was great. Still having a bad pain day, but emotionally I am floating up with the clouds.
As for the kidney stones, we still have that watch and wait, nothing is stuck, and it is much lower than before, but no more info than that. She did a thumbs up for lemon juice and spinach, water and cranberry juice, but is afraid the adhesions have caused narrowing of the ureter which makes them harder to pass. So I came home to dogs happy to see me and my outlook is better now. Thank you all for helping me through my negativity. I can now see that is all my "bad days" have been lately, bad emotional state combined with pain. Have a low pain afternoon and evening everyone!
