Got let go from job!

So.... I dont know how many of you remember, but over the past few months my bosses have been looking for a reason to let me go...

Well, they couldnt come up with one, so they made something up. Totally Bogus! And I was able to disprove what they said, however, they still let me go on Monday. Stating "job performance"

HA! been there 3 years and never ONE problem.

So, I will be job hunting. Worring about loosing my medical insurance and wondering if I am even able to be hirable... or desirable... wow

Wont be on here too often until I get stuff figured out.

Gosh, that sucks. I'm so sorry you lost your job.

As for the insurance, even if you were fired "for cause" you should be able to purchase COBRA coverage for up to 18 months after your termination date. Your HR department or Benefits Administrator should send you a packet of information but you could call them and ask them how that will work & what the premiums would be. You are supposed to elect COBRA coverage within 30 days of your termination date.

Also, some employers will not contest unemployment claims even if they did give you some reason for termination. You could try applying for benefits or else you could call your HR department & ask if you would be eligible to apply for unemployment benefits.

As for the job hunt, you could always try temp-to-hire positions. Often they are less stringent about checking your last job. If you need money, you can try straight temporary assignments -- they are very lenient, often you can buy very basic emergency insurance through them and sometimes a client is impressed and will offer you a job (it happened to me at my last permanent assignment, so now I'm back to temping hoping something will work out).

 Dear Donna,

    Gosh I am so sorry to hear they are letting you go. Especially after you finally found a good PM. You have always gone to work and done your very best in spite of all the pain and struggles. I just do not understand why they would let go of such a valuable asset. I hope you are able to find a new job, hopefully with a company that sees you have tremendous strength and are able to take on anything with ease.

     I will miss you a lot. I understand why you will be sparse. Stop in when / if you can. Take care and stay strong!!!

Oh, that just sucks!!! Do you have anything at all from your bosses in writing that shows poor performance by you? Do you have any yearly reviews that include positive comments? I think you may have a wrongful dismissal suit on your hands, especially if they let you go because of performance, but they have nothing negative about you in writing.

Good luck with your job hunt. Remember, this dismissal is in no way a reflection of you or your abilities. Polish up your resume and get out there with it...confidence, personality and skills are the top three things you want every potential employer to see in you.
