what change in schd 2 narcs?

my pharmacy says the scripts will take longer to process due to a change...no one knows what the change is? did i miss something?

new to all this.been reading for a few days but never posted anywhere before...hoping  to get answers.  chronic pain patient more than 20 years-more than half my life.  i'm not sure anyone cares to hear "my story" or lifelong list of meds but I'm researching pain pump and need increase in morphine and not sure what all the chatter is about. please post or e mail me. thanx

HalfPaw welcome to Healing Well's chronic pain forum and please do not dismiss your plight as something no one would be interested in reading. Every person on this forum has their own story to tell as to what brought them to this forum. You know the old saying, misery loves company, well come on it, lol.

Since you are interested in pain pumps you hit the right place. I have a pain pump and I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. You can also do a search here at the forum top right and type in pain pumps and you will find a wealth of info on pumps too.

Anyway, back to your question, I have no idea what you are speaking of. I live in Tx and had my meds filled last week without a hitch and there was no talk of new rules. I did read on here today that drs in Florida will no longer be rxing Methadone for pain mgt, other than that have no idea. Sorry.

I was on chat today with you and Stingray and I'm sorry I couldn't stay on longer. Hopefully we can catch up again soon.
It seems the Healing Well has a wealth of information and so many kind and caring people as members so I hope you stay on board and get the answers you are looking for.

I'm in Australia so info re the change in schedule / legislation re your meds is something I can't help with. Sorry.

   Hello Halfpaws!

          Welcome to the CP forum! I too got to visit with you last night on chat. Lots of good members there for sure.

       I also don't know what laws are being changed, but I do know that many of the states are changing them.

Some are not law induced, but simply the Dr's changing their script practices as the goverment is cracking down on the PM's

       It is very tough to get Oxycontin where I live now, and has caused a delima for may CP patients.

It does depend on what state you live in. In IL, they now allow C2 scripts to be valid for up to 6 months, rather than just 7 days. The insurance companies have taken that as a license to drag their feet on filling prescriptions. Annoys the heck out of me. It was a crazy race before to ship off an overnight package with the script in it to Timbuktu, call & nag & pray that they didn't wait too long to process it, causing me to have to get the script back, go back to the doctors, get a new script & start the process all over again. Now they take 3 weeks to get me my prescription (at least a week of that time is trying to convince me, my doctor & anyone else they can get a hold of to switch over to Advil -- yeah, that'll work great. Advil is a reasonable substitute for fentanyl, right? [sarcasm]).

Frances are you speaking of mailing you your prescription or the meds coming a from a mail order pharmacy. I am you know in Tx and its against the law to mail a script of any kind, does not matter what it is for. I found this out when I broke my arm last year. I needed a script from my gi and was going to go pick it up, that was before I fell and broke my arm, lol. Anyway, its 60 miles round trip to his office and I called and asked them to mail the script to me since I did not feel like driving and was told about this no mail law. So far knock on wood, my Humira and Forteo are mail order and I get them the next day, probably because they have to be kept cold and they arrive in coolers.

I haven't heard of any change in Rx laws and I recently checked out the news release on both the FDA and DEA websites. It very well might be a local law change. Federal laws concerning precriptions really haven't changed much, but I think thats partly because its local law enforcement that is responsible for smaller cases. Most federal level laws provide protection from large scale operations but not much protection for smaller "under the radar ones". Therefore, state governments are taking a stronger stand against Rx crimes. In addition to this, if cases becomes larger, the DEA could get involved, and the states want to handle their own business with as little federal support as possible. On the positive, some measures prevent diversion. On the negative, some state laws make the prescription process for CP patients more difficult. Most of the laws are aimed at teenagers and "fly by night" practices and shipping companies. Unfortunately, making harsher laws isn't going to stop teens. Better educational means has been known to make the biggest impact. Tougher laws only make teens want to "rebel" more so to speak.
