here you go again a newby....have had all of the standard injections etc... down now [accordingt to my pain management dr.] ready for neurostimulation therapy...??

have read the pr materials etc.  and of course all are wonderful cures...ready to do the test...do i hear any innput..??

Hi Comodore and welcome to Healing Well's chronic pain forum. I am sorry that you have to be here but glad that you found the forum. We do have a couple members here with the SCS and they may pop on later. What I suggest that you do is at the top right of the page is Search, type in SCS units and you will get a wealth of information as the subject has been discussed here many times over. That way you don't have to wait and see if anyone comes on and see's your post.

I don't have a SCS but I can tell you its like anything else we try with CP, it may work for you or it may not. They will do a trial to see if you ere getting any relief. Please note the SCS does not take your pain away, instead it creates a new sensation that they hope will over ride some of the pain. So, if you are looking for something pain free the SCS will not do that. In reality as one of the members here put it, it like implanting a Tens Unit in a person. All I can suggest is do your home work on this and make no quick decisions about the unit.

After 5 years, I am growing increasingly frustrated with my SCS. I had a good 3-4 years with it, but now hate it and just want it out. Sadly, I am one of those people whose leads are scarred in place and unable to be removed. Still, due to the burning, searing pain it causes, I am considering at least getting the battery pack explanted once I have insurance again.

The reps have run all kinds of tests but can't figure out anything to suggest other than replacing the unit. I figure if I have to go through surgery after only 5 years, I don't want another one in me.

Also, make sure you ask how long the battery will last if you plan to run it 24/7. I was told it would likely burn out in 3 years (vs. the 10 years they say is the standard time a battery lasts). There are at least a dozen treatments I'd opt for after injections before considering an SCS [I believed that even when I loved my SCS] but that's just me. Each person has to decide what they can or cannot live with.
