Hi all,
Thanks so much for asking about
me & thanks to SE & Suzane for letting everyone know that I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth! I'm sorry for my lack of posting, I really have been meaning to give you all an update, but things have just been crazy here.
As Suzane and SE said, these last two months have been very hectic, as almost every weekend I had to travel to a different vet school for interviews, etc. Fortunately, I am done with all that now. I'm proud to say that all my hard work paid off. I ended up getting into every school that I applied to & had the privilege of choosing what school to go to. I am very happy with my choice & think that I will get an excellent education. The school I chose is only 4 1/2 hrs from home by car, which is good, as I think I'm going to try to maintain my current team of doctors. It took me so long to assemble this team & I love them all so much, I really don't want to have to switch doctors if I can help it. We'll all have to chat before I leave & figure this all out. School starts in mid-August.
As for my eye pain, I'm doing surprisingly well. I love my stimulator. It doesn't take away all the pain, and there are days where it doesn't seem to help at all, but more often than not, the stimulator reduces my pain by 30-70% (probably 50% on average). Over the last few months, my meds have been reduced, and are now essentially only used for break-though pain. It seems like the stimulator is helping more now (7 months after the implantation) than it was when I first got it, which is great. The surgeon had told me that this might happen. I guess sometimes the stimulator can help "reprogram" the nerves and lower the base-line pain level. I do use it 24 hrs a day/7 days a week, so maybe that helps.
My vision and neurologic function of my eye are still screwed up, but unfortunately, there is nothing that we can do about
it. It makes reading for more than a few minutes difficult, but I've learned to cope. I'm a little worried about
what is going to happen when I go to vet school and have so much reading to do (now that I haven't been in school for a year), but I just have to keep telling myself that I can do it. I know I have the drive and the determination, and I do have technology that helps make things easier for me to read (enlarges font on books, computer, and can read things to me).
As for the depression and anxiety, those are things that I still struggle with, but with the right diagnosis (bipolar II), and the right meds, things are improving. We're still working out which med combo is best, but I am better than I was in the fall. Not great, but better. I'm still really tired all the time.
Other than that, nothing much is new. We've had an incredibly snowy winter. We usually get a lot of snow, but this year we got hammered by at least one storm a week, bringing anywhere from 1 - 3 ft per storm, for about
5 wks. I have never seen so much snow here. At one point we had over 5 ft on the ground (it's now melted to about
2 ft). It was incredible. People's roofs were collapsing, barns we collapsing, it was really bad. Fortunately, the snow has let up, and the worst seems to have past.
Hope everyone is well & is surviving winter!
hugs,
Skeye
