I am trying to understand some things about rules and reguations regarding postings.  I absolutley understand that they are there for a reason, I guess Ive always been somewhat of a rebel where rules and regulations are concerned.  I dont really know what I want to say about these rules and regs,  and I absolutley do not want to offend anyone.  But some of the terms of these r and r s I guess maybe I dont really understand and find some of them nothing more than common sense.  Please know I do not want to offend anyone and I guess I am making excuses for myself.

I am an Army brat.  My father never stopped cursing until the day he died, and even his last words were nothing I could write here.

For 15 years I worked in the construction business, I thought I knew every unacceptable words there were due to my father until I worked in construction.  I will mention in passing that I am a female, I mention this only to say that women can use the very same unacceptable words that men do.

But I am not just talking about curse words, thats really so not the issue, I really dont know where I am going with this.

I think that maybe its just me and my old age rebellious stage that makes me ponder things like rules and regs.

So I really dont expect any response to this posting since I think I am just venting to myself outloud.  So heres hoping everyone is having very low pain day(s).  It has been an beautiful day where I am.

Hi...

Are you specifically referring to the rule re: language or was there others that you had questions about?

Re: the "bad language" rule... this is a public forum and a "family oriented" site; hence, the reason for that rule.  I do understand what you are saying re: bad words.... I've got a bit of a...ummmm....potty mouth myself.  (not around the kids, no worries).  But it's never something I would post here on the board for the reason mentioned above AND because not everyone appreciates that type of language :)

Re: the other rules/regulations - just in my opinion, they are one of the main reasons that makes our board function so well. 

Other than the language rule - was there anything else that you had a question about or don't understand the reasoning behind it??  Just curious.

Ooops, one more thought... you wrote that most of the rules are "common sense" - and you are right.  In fact, for the first year or so on the board - I hadn't even read the forum rules. 

But you would be really surprised how many people come on here and immediately break one of the forum rules.... (discussing illegal activity; cursing; posting links to various things; and so forth).

I don't think anyone is going to take offense to your posting :)  Just a bit of clarity of what you were specifically referring to would be great.

The thing about common sense is that it is not really all that common.

I have been a moderator on quite a few various sites over the years and on a few we have tried to not have any kind of posting rules in an attempt to let the "rules" of common sense and common decency rule instead of spelling it out and in every single instant it did not take very long at all before members were bashing each other, posting links to **** and all sorts of other things, cussing every other word, etc. It was like watching a pre school class after they were forced fed a month of Richard Pryor and George Carlin and then allowed to eat 10 lbs of sugar each and having the adults leave the room. Not pretty at all.

Sites that post what is expected of members usually have fewer problems with that kind of thing, especially when those rules are enforced uniformly and fairly.

One of the reasons for the language rule is because this is a public forum and we never know the age of the person reading here. One person once said if you don't want your children or grand kids reading it then don't type it. I have to agree with that one,. as I no one uses any language around the kids or grand kids.

By having rules and the rules being enforced is helps keep HW a safe place to come to and that I do appreciate.

Tina, Jim1969 and straydog, You all make very good sense, with yours Jim, you are so right, common sense really isnt as common as it should be.  Tina, also I agree with what you said the reason I went straight to the rule on language is that its not important to me at all, I have a bit of a "potty mouth" myself, but I dont walk around cursing just to be using those type of words, that at least in my experience is what some teenagers do when they are beginning to start asserting themselves.  Believe me I have been at many bus stops listening to the teens talking among themselves and my grandchildren (5 and9) are right there with me wondering why these "kids" are using that type of language.  At times I have had the bus driver interject and have these kids tone it down or get off the bus.

So it wasnt about language, I hesitate to explain why I asked that question because the posting where my questions rose from said no one should respond to the posting and it had been sent to Admin. and I guess taken care of.  So thank you all so much for responding,  what I am going to do is drop it, and am confident that the problem was taken care of by people who know what to do in those situations.  Thanks again hoping all are having low pain days.

I can really relate to your "vent".  But as Jim said, not everyone has common sense.

In my introductory welcome that I post to newcomers, I rarely tell them to read the rules and regs posted at the top, because it is common sense to do that when you come to a new forum and I feel that I am insulting people by reminding folks about doing that.  And yet, there are those they do not read them, (or ignore them, I guess) and go off half-cocked with their posts and use inflammatory language or spam or insults or what have you and there you go. It's obvious they have no common sense.  That's when the moderators step in and gently remind someone about the rules.

Thanks for your post.  I'm sure others feel the way you do and have not verbalized it the way you have.

I think I know what you are referring to. Recently there was a post that should not have been on the forum. If I remember correctly, there was a poll with the post. Since the post and poll were to do with illegal substances it was not permitted. That is the main reason why the moderator asked that others not respond until the admin could remove the poll. Moderators don't have the capability to delete polls, only to edit posts.

I will talk to the moderator in question since he/she is new to editing and see if there's a better way to get this idea across without asking people to 'not respond'.

Thanks for you input! If people don't question and ask then those who are able to help, cant. You did everyone a favor by asking your questions that you didn't ask...lol

I want to thank all who responded to my (it now seems ridiculous), what happened is I overeacted to something that scared me and I quess I didnt quite know what to do.  After reading everyones response I know that people are trained to deal with those types of things.  I am not going to linger with this subject, as far as I am concerned It is a done deal. I am sorry I overeacted, I will be more careful in the future.

      NiNi, you don't need to appoligize at all. You're concern was indeed a valid one!

          There are no dumb questions either as far as were concerned, so ask when you feel the need to.

    Feel free to contact "any" of the "Moderators" when ever you have a question, such as the one you posted.

    We Moderators are discsussing and looking for a better way all the time, so you're question was taken as constructive in a positive light. It is appreciated!

         Were just glad that we have active members like you that care enough to ask....and we cannot ask anymore of a member.
