measuring for support stockings

How does one measure the lower leg for support stockings?  Do you measure from bottom of knee to toes or bottom of knee to ankle /foot joint?

         Ok, I'm going to take a stab at helping you here Betsey! smilewinkgrin   Let my stupidity shine through! smilewinkgrin

      Are you talking about the support stockings that the hospital's use after surgery? The toeless ones?...that run up to your knee?

      If I remember right they seem to be a one size fits all sort of stocking. I have a pair here at home, that the hospital used on me after my surgery.

      However, if I remember right, you are about the size of "Tinkerbell" from Peter Pan! smilewinkgrin ...so I can see where you might need a special size.

        I probably missed this by a mile or so...but hopefully I will learn something out of it!

Depending on the type of support stockings you are wanting, you can go to a medical supply store and get a proper measurement done. I have to wear compression hose and they always do my fittings. Hope this helps you.

Apparently the ortho doc wants me to get mild support hose and they go by shoe size. I am size 5 so i need 5,51/2,6,61/2 and they should go to your knee. Not in stock so here I am waiting for the order to arrive and the pharmacy will call me when they are in. My legs are killing me.

Thanks everyone but in the area that I live there is only one place I can get them and my size wasnt in stock. I know when I put them on they will be to long and I will have to fold them down over my sore tibia. Thats just great.
