Woo Hoo, got my SSDI

I had my hearing in front of the ALJ Sept. 21st and have been a nervous wreck since then waiting for an answer.  Well, I got it today and it was fully favorable with my onset date being June 12, 2009.  I never thought I would get the decision so fast.  This is such a relief after two years of denials and doctors appointments.  Guess now I can join Pete!!! 

For anyone else out there that is going through the SSDI process, I say, keep fighting and keep getting documentation cause your gonna need it.

That is wonderful news, I remember how happy I was 12 years ago, excellent!!!!!

So glad to read your post; you've been missed....but especially glad to hear your wonderful news. I know how long you've waited for this moment - and it's so great that it's finally here!!!! So, so happy for you smilewinkgrin

Wow Jag that is really terrific news! I really am happy for you! It just shows that preserverance  will win out in the end, especially when your trying to get SSD! It also took me a very long time to get mine, and it was also back dated.  Anyway I am very  very happy for you Jag, and it is really nice to see you posting again, it has been a long time since I have seen a post by you! Welcome Back!

Woo hoo! Big congrats to you Jag! That is so wonderful to hear. I just started my SSDI journey again (got denied last time and was so depressed I didn't appeal) So I know I am in it for the long haul.

Once again congratulations, you deserved this!

Thanks for the congrats everyone.  I had heard how hard it is to get SSDI when I first started but now that I've lived it the whole process stinks.  The system is broken and the ones that it effects are in situations that the last thing they need is added stress.  Oh, well, like everything else in our government, there's not much we can do about it.

Great news! I too am going thru the ridiculous process, have been denied and am waiting for my appeal, started about 6 months ago, luckily I have been able to get unemployment from my last job otherwise my family would probably be homeless, Great to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Badheart, I don't want to give you bad news but social security may consider you able to work if you are drawing unemployment benefits while filing for disability.  If you are drawing unemployment you are considered able to work in social securities eyes.  You cannot work while filing for SS.  Might want to check into this to make sure.  Believe me the last two years have been a real struggle financially for my family.

Badheartdude I am in Canada and our rules are a bit different but I was on unemployment benefits as well they ran out in November and the following March is when the pain was so bad I had to see Dr. The lawyer I saw said that every week I signed document stating I was ready able and willing to work for my unemployment benefits and because I did not go to work between Nov and Mar because I went to Dr in Nov to make sure I was ready to work because when I work I am a workoholic and would not be taking any time off.

He changed my medication and there is no way I could have worked between Nov and March and here I am years later still unable to work. I'm just sharing this info because the lawyer said if I get approved for disability that unemployment could sue me for the benefits they paid me because in the lawyers opinion I was not ready, and able to go to work. (I did not hire that lawyer because as you can tell he was a butt head).

bsjaguar gave you some great advise check this out to save yourself some grief.

Congratulations on your approval, its nice to know people do get approvals.

Congrats on getting your SSDI!!!!! NOW - hopefully you will also be getting medicare and even more importantly medicare Part D to help pay for the medications. They are so much cheaper on Medicare Part D if you just search around!

good going, jag.

i had to fight mine for nearly 3 years, got approved just this june, and they back paid me till august of 2008. took a good lawyer and help from my U.S. Senator, but it finally happened.
