Retired Mom, your right laughter is relaxing and leaves you happy for a time after. I'm not sure I enjoy laughing as mush as I enjoy making others laugh, I get a noticeable swell of happiness from it. It is funny to see a lot of people laugh at dry humor but a few in the group don't get it. Since it's become so popular there is a different way of doing it now where the jokes are purposefully simplified so everyone will get it.
Betsey Ross, I've been told I've I haven't lost my sense of humor by the doctors and nurses lol. It's my way of getting through stressful situations. I won't be going into rehab for a while as I'm up for another surgery soon but that is a wonderful thing you guys do! In the wing I'm in is full of a lot of misery. I'm no longer in ICU which was worse, but it's still not good. They are letting my dog come up here on Christmas day so that is something I'm looking forward to. As far as pain control, they have me hooked up to an iv that goes to a bag of morphine and a pump. I have a button to press if the pain becomes to bad. I don't particularly care for being high but I'd rather do that than go through the pain. Some of my friends keep saying they would be pressing that constantly just to be high, but being on medications for so long makes being high old. Also I have a form of ADHD that hasn't quite yet been classified. I'm bombarded by thoughts but I can solve each problem at once therefore I do not need to focus to function. I have been subjected to multiple studies growing up and what they have seen, is my prefrontal cortex (part of the brain associated with problem solving) is highly active but my brain stem (part that handles vital functions like heartbeat and breathing and other involuntary bodily functions) becomes more active. They have concluded I unconsciously solve problems and situations I'm presented with. I don't normally talk about
it because it seems like something highly science fiction but although rare I'm not the only one out there. It also seems like I'm bragging but trust me although I am solving multiple problems (like talking about
one thing, reading and writing about
another at the same time) I still can't shut down the thoughts just like people with ADHD. Just being able to deal with each thought doesn't mean I don't want to focus on just one. People that have it can tell you how awful it is. When I'm high/drunk the thoughts just hang in my head. I no longer can solve them the way I can normally can.
Sorry about
all that rambling lol. I've got a lot of time on my hands.
