So much for an appointment 'soon'

When I saw my endo the other week, he told me that he was putting through a referral to orthopaedics because he wanted me to talk to a surgeon as soon as possible about my back - as you guys know I'm still getting a LOT of pain from it, I'm also having trouble with my left leg in particular going weak and numb.

I got a letter today about my appointment - 22nd March. If that's ASAP, I'd hate to see how long everyone else has to wait...Not happy mad

March!!!! That is so long to wait!..I feel for you. I dont know how you could get in any sooner.

Cheers Betsey. I'm not happy. My endo isn't really someone I feel comfortable talking with because he doesn't have much in the way of people skills, but I'm seeing my PM on the 6th Jan and I know I can see my GP any time. This referral is through the public system, so I guess the alternative is to get them to break out whatever big sticks they have to get me in somewhere private if I can't get in sooner. I just know that I can't wait 'til March. That probably makes me sound like a brat - I know that a lot of people have to wait a lot longer for medical treatment, but with the baking and gift making I've done coming up to Christmas, I now can't move.

I'm going to ring after Christmas and see what can be done but I don't like my chances much. All it says on the form is that "If your condition requires attention sooner than your appointment date, please see your general practitioner or attend your nearest hospital emergency department."

How are YOU feeling now, with your surgery so close?

Hi Laura, March for an appt, wow, thats an awful long ways off to have wait to see a specialist. I think I would get with one of my other drs and see what magic they can muster up and go from there.

I have been out and about shopping with my daughter-in-law a lot this year. Usually I order most of my gifts and did some this year. It just felt good getting out of the house and seeing the sights, lol. We have done quite a bit of baking and making candy and I have really enjoyed it this year. Even though it has increased the pain levels its been worth every bit of it.

Laura I have to admit I do not understand your measuring system used in your recipe you posted. You put a small g I believe it was by the ingredients and I do not understand what this means, lol. If it is not listed as a cup, or ounces and such I am lost, lol.

Let us know if you get into the dr sooner than March. Take care.

Hi Laura Wow March is such a long time to wait when you've got the pain you have and not healing. If I were you I would definitely call after the holiday and see what your doctors can do. I wish for you a low pain day for tomorrow. Keep us updated on what happens.

Laura...call the ortho office an ask them to put you on the cancellation list, this way is someone cancels thaey will calla nd see if you want the appointment. I hope you get in sooner...fingers crossed..

Amy, thanks for the reminder. I mean to do it after the Christmas break, but it's useful to have someone give me a nudge in writing ;)

Hi,

I was just going to suggest the call list recommendation and noticed that Laura had already mentioned it.  I hope you will be seen sooner, rather than later.  I can assume (of course you know that doesn't mean much) that the referral was received, but perhaps your complete record hasn't gotten there for review.  They can always move the appointment up when they review the records.  I have had that happen with specialists before.


Otherwise, I can hope it means that your specialist is the absolute best and that he/she is so busy that they are full until then.  Perhaps someone will improve and get you in sooner!
