I found this fourm while googling around solutions to pain. At this point I really don't know where to turn or what else to do.
Around November 2010 while returning from lunch I started to get a stabbing pain sensation in my right flank. It started to progress and get over a few minutes but within an hour the sensation was gone. Over the next few days I would get that pain sensation in my flank and over time it began to be accompined by a burning sensation that went from the side of my body on the right hand side and flow up to my belly button, but only on the right side.
So in Novemeber of that year I went to my family doctor and she sent me for an ultra sound to check for stones. The ultra sound came back negative so she sent me for a CAT scan of the area. That CAT scan also came back negative so I was referred to a GI doctor.
In early 2011 I followed up with the GI doctor ending with a colonoscpy which again came back negative.
After the GI doctor turned up no cause I went back to my family doctor and at this point her mood shifted and she didn't out right say it, she pretty much accused me of making it all up. So at that point she told me to just wait and see and it should go away on its on. This was now early March 2010.
So I gave it a month on my own the flank pain only got worse so I went back to her. She begruddingly referened me to an orthopedic doctor, who then sent me for an XRAYS. The XRAY showed a little something so he sent me for an MRI and he found that there's not a big enough gap between L5 and S1 but 'Not enough to cause serious pain'. So he sent me away with a pescription for naproxin and that was it. The naproxin helps some aches and pains in the back but doesn't address the flank pain.
Someone then told me to go see a chriopractor, which I did for about 4 months. He just spoke vaguly about sublexations and after the 4 months I feel like he made any mild back pain I had worse but did nothing for the flank pain and burning sensation. After that I heard that hypnosis can help with pain so I went through a course of 8 sessions with a local guy that had good reviews but that hasn't helped the pain any.
Whenever I call my family doctor and ask to be seen about the pain her staff tells me if it's really that bad then you should go to the ER. I have gone 3 times to the ER but feel really uneasy and feel like its pretty much pointless because I have just about every test under the sun. All they do is give you a small prescription of percaset, which does really help, but they just send you on your way.
So now later on at the end of 2011 I was at my family doctor on an unrelated matter and she asked about my pain. I told her it was still an issue and she prescribed me 60mg Cymbalta. The cymalta helps some but the pains are still there and it doesn't help all of the way.
So right now I am on
60mg Cymbalta - Helps about 30%
600mg Neurotin (3x day) - Helps about 10%
500mg Naproxin (2x day) - Helps with little aches and pains but not the flank pain and burning sensation.
Right now I am really frustrated being in pain on a daily basis for over a year and a half now. My mood has went into the toilet over the past year and I'm sick and tired of my doctors thinking I'm making it all up and pretty much refusing to help. I'm not really sure what else to do now I've tried pretty much everything.
