Hi, I wish I could help you, but the itching goes along with the meds, and not just dilaudid, most of the narcotic meds, at least at first make you itch like crazy, try to bare with it, it does go away.  As for the heat and sweats, that also is from the meds, all I can tell you there is maybe put a fan a little away from you at night, it might stop the worse of it.  Its alway something, isnt it.

I`m so sorry you`ve had such awful bad side effects, sounds really terrible. I`m so glad the itching has gone away now and you could sleep. I haven`t experienced that myself but I have experienced the warm feeling. I used to get really bad hot flushes and sometimes still do, it used to look like I`d run a marathon  at 9 in the morning at work lol. I`ve asked doctors if there`s any solutions and no one has any answers. I find an ice pack or a cold wet cloth on your forehead or neck helps to cool you down and eat lots of ice blocks. Also I found steaming my face helped, must be something to do with the sweat, you get a bowl, fill it with boiling water and put a towel over your head and keep your head a reasonable distance away from the water and stay for a few minutes. I`m glad your results came back with some answers so you can see where to go from here. Take care. Hugs xxxx

Well you don`t need more hot flashes then lol. I`ve had all day hot flashes like what you described too, they drive me nuts. Mine have calmed down now I`m used to the meds but at the beginning it felt like I was on fire even though it was cold. I don`t generally feel the cold any more, though, lol. But sometimes I do still get a real hot flush. When I stayed with my parents last summer they had moved into a new house with double glazed insulation or something like that. It wasn`t even that hot but I felt like I was burning up, I couldn`t wait for the winter to arrive! They do get better though and less frequent.

I`m guessing they have just given you dilaudid or however you spell it just for getting over the arthogram. Has it had any effect on the back pain? Apart from the side effects that is. If it has helped the PM might be able to keep you on it even if they lower the dose, at least you can tell them if it helped or not. That`s great there is no rupture! Hopefully that means no surgery.

I`m ok, thanks honey, I haven`t been in contact since the other day as the pain has been so bad the last few days. I`m so tired, it`s all becoming a blur. I`m lucky it`s a quiet week at work so I can rest. On Sunday morning I was in agony, I was curled up and wanted to scream and I had to go to a friend`s and had already cancelled the week before from being sick so didn`t have the heart to do it two weeks in a row. I was dreading it because of the pain but finally just before I got there it started to subside, I think it was the rushing around that finally kicked the painkillers in. And the last two days the pain has also been like that at times though not for so long. Sorry I`ve just made this all about me.

I understand, I wouldn`t want to take the dilaudid again after those side effects, that sounds like hell, how scary. I hope it`s all gone away now. I hope that your appointment goes well, I`ll be thinking of you.

I hope the hot flushes/fevers have calmed down a bit too. Yes it`s awful being woken up sweaty and hot and having hot flushes in summer. Oh that`s unfortunate you live in a very hot place. When I lived in Australia I was lucky for the last couple of years I was there, when I took this medication there were no really hot summers apart from one record day, but if I had taken that medication the year before it would have been terrible. I made it worse in the summer as I had my hot water bottle even on hot days, i figured I could put up with being too hot if it meant less pain. But I love winter now, it is one up side to all of this lol.

Thanks for your concern, as always. It has been more difficult the last couple of weeks but I think it`s getting better. Well today has been good, only a few times with bad pain and it is gone for now. I also get so tired from not being able to sleep from pain like you describe, it sucks! Also when you do get to sleep but get woken up sucks too. I also just get tired in general from being in pain, I feel like I don`t have much energy.
