Medtronics has a new SCS Unit out

That's such a great idea, if it works as intended. I just looked it up and had a read on it. Their press release is HERE if anyone would like to read it.

It sounds as though it first has to 'learn' what settings each individual uses and can then change accordingly when they change position. It would make an enormous difference to a lot of people I think. I don't have the 'zap' problem with normal changes in position - only sometimes with sudden changes, like if I sneeze or cough - but I do have to change intensity a little if I move from lying to sitting - or sitting in a bed as against my wheelchair. Many people have to change programs completely.

Hi   I am new on here but having  chronic groin and hip pain down to knee, left over from motorcycle accident 3.5 years ago that left me disabled. I cannot walk very far nor sit or stand very long. I am seeing surgeon monday to get scheduled to have this unit installed. I had a test a couple weeks ago and it worked wonderful, tingle instead of pain and when it came time to remove it after a week I didnt want them to.  The only complaint I had was the adjusting for standing and sitting, laying down. So I am going with this one and hopefully get some relief.

Hi Everyone. I am new here too. I have the new unit the RestoreSensor with AdaptiveStim. I am in my 3rd month with it now and I love my SCS in general.

When you get this model they don't turn on the AdaptiveStim for about a month so that the leads and the incisions can heal. I went and got mine activated at the one month mark - I was so excited about having the new technology. So I got it adjusted and it seemed to work ok while I was in the office but then over the next few days i seemed to have problems. It wasn't responding as it should. I changed the stimulation in the various positions and stayed in the position to let the AdaptiveStim "learn" it. but it never seemed to work. I went back 3 times and finally my Rep had to erase the programs on my stimulator and start over. It seems that the stimulator was a little confused. It would sometimes get the position wrong. I went from a standing to a lying position and it would think I was still standing. So the amplitude would be just as strong. Or If I was on one side and rolled over it might think that I was standing or on my back. My Rep told me that I was the first person who he had encountered with the new neurostimulator that had these problems. Once my Rep erased all the programs and put them back it work so much better. Though not as well I would like or imagined.

I have chronic groin pain that goes into my leg and up my side. And I have found that i do much better without the AdaptiveStim, especially when going from lying down to a standing position. The stimulator seems to take a while to "kick in". Either it is still in the lower setting from lying down and i can't feel it or it is off. Then it will just start up without a warning. My Rep told that going form a lying down position to a standing position it dose take a little while, just in case you just stood up quickly to get or do something. The description wasn't as shocking as the reality.

When my stimulator is off not only does my pain come back quickly but so do other sensations but so does my dizziness and nausea. So mine is running all the time. I also run it pretty high and so I need to charge the battery quite frequently. If I was to let the battery get right down I would probably be charging about every 2-3 days. Though usually I just top-off the charge every day.

The AdaptiveStim doesn't have to be on all the time. It is possible to turn it off. In a few situations, for me it was in a moving car, the AdaptiveStim gets confused and it thinks something else is happening..

I still love the idea even though it is not quite for me at the moment. I'm like "Darn Me", I prefer to change my position when needing a different level of stimulation.
