Hi! I am new here - 56 years old and was diagnosed with PVNS January 2011. Was referred to a doc who has done hundreds of surgeries on patients with PVNS. I had good insurance at the time through my job. Was scheduled for surgery in June 2011. In the meantime, I had to change jobs, so there went the insurance. Started my new job in June, but had to wait the obligatory 90 days for the insurance to kick in. I give you that background to let you know what I have been told by medical health professionals.
1. First of all, I have a large mass in my left knee which is going to take a straight cut in front and an "S" cut in back to get it all.
2. I will have to be off work for at least two months to allow for proper healing.
3. There is a 100% chance that the condition will return - but - it usually takes 10 to 15 years to redevelop.
Having said all this, I have not had the surgery yet. When I was first diagnosed, my old job was going to pay my salary for the two months I would have to be off to recover. My new job has no such provision in place. I cannot live without a paycheck for two months, so that has been a determining factor about having the surgery. I have been taking two medications - Hydrocodone and Vimovo( Substitute for Celebrex) since I was diagnosed. I move freely with only a twinge now and then. I have not had an MRI since February of 2011. My doctor told me the disease has a very slow growth rate, but of course he did not expect me to have put off the surgery for this long. I do plan to have the surgery, but I do not know at this time when that will happen. I just want others to have the information that I was given.
Best regards to all - Lisubre.
I gave your post a subject line...the reason for the edit..and I locked the other thread. You did great..and we appreciate it!
