KEI_18 I have googled that procedure, and have read quite a few reports about it, from what I have been able gather, it is recommended to have a discography done first to see if your even a canidate for the procedure. And also from what I have read, the jury is still out on whether this procedure actually really works or not!!!! As they have had mixed results on the studies that have been done. They do say that it is not recommended for people with severe disc degeneration or spinal stenosis, or spinal instability. And it takes quite along time to finally get any relief if you even do. Also having a discography as some other members can tell you is not at all a pleasant experience, and acccording to the one article I read it can also possibly cause disk problem after having the procedure. If I were you I would google it I just put in "IDET medical procedure", and then go down the list and read them all. After having read what I read I might think twice about having such a procedure done. Have you had an MRI done on your back? I have had the nerve blocks and epidurals and I do not get any lengthly relief from them, just 3 or 4 week max. But from the sound of it, even after the IDET procedure, it can be many many months before you get any real relief and along time before you can do anything really strenuous they say like skieing??????

Just wanted to pop in and say that I have had a discogram done, and I received sedation for the procedure, and it was not that bad at all, However they will not put you clear out as they need feed back from the patient. If your Tech performing the Discogram does not use sedation, then it could be painful like an epidural, if you have ever had one done. The procedure is used to detect which disk is causing your pain, and needs further treatment such as a fusion, like in my case. I had a double lumbar fusion at the L4-L5, L5-S1 location.
