CP Dr?

I see an actual Pain Management Dr. (Can't remember if you are in the U.S. or not?)

My Dr. is trained in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management.

There are other Dr.s that still prescribe pain medication in the U.S. like a Primary Dr., Rheumatologist, or Internist to name a few. However, over the next few years, more states are passing laws that require non PM Drs. to get extra training and certification to be able to treat chronic pain patients and/or prescribe opiates. So it's just something to be aware of and if you can find a PM Dr. that you really like and provides a comprehensive plan of action, that is best.

There are some PMs that only do interventional type of things like epidurals, injections, acupuncture, or other things that try to avoid the patient taking medication.

My Dr. is also board certified as a Pain Medicine Physician. He uses all types of treatments including medication. As the laws get tighter...even PM's that aren't certified now will require Board Certification.

Hi Donna it seems like it has been awhile since I have seen you post, good to have you back. You know I am in east central Illinois and my Spinal Pain Management doctor, does just about every thing, prescribes pain meds, and does all the different types of injections and nerve blocks he does it all, he also prescribes test, like MRI, nerve conduction, and all the test that is needed, he also does referrals to other doctors and surgeons. Heck he even gave me a referral to a counselor that would accept medicare and tricare, when my marriage was going on the rocks. My PM although back problems are his main thing, he also does other pain management problems. I am not sure I understand exactly what you are looking for, but from what everyone has said on this forum, there can be allot of differences among Pain Management doctors. Some will not even prescribe pain meds! So my suggestion would be to thoroughly check them out before ever going to one, because once you commit to one it might be more difficult to find another that would accept you.

Formerly, my Urologist/Surgeon did, but for the past year, my Oncologist handles all my PM, he is also a certified pain specialist and knows intimately how to handle cancer related pain such as mine. He does a great job too.
